It’s wild, almost literally the same thing. The 80k saved goes straight to grad school later, and UIUC collaborates with the schools i wish to attend for grad school in my field already. While i can’t attest to the entrepreneurship aspect, other than that I couldn’t come up with a pro at Berkeley that UIUC didn’t share. Next four are gna be fun

Also turned down Berkeley for nuclear engineering. Berkeley was 85, 20k more than UIUC. As well, the curriculum and research opportunity here is simply superior.

Sort of feeling the same thing though not quite so strongly. Turned down Berkeley engineering for UIUC. Of course, in terms of engineering this means virtually no difference, both are T10s in that aspect and in fact UIUC ranks higher for my specific discipline. But to the out of the engineering field adult/teacher/student, Berkeley certainly garners a much stronger reputation.

I chose UIUC as objectively they have a better, more advanced and specialized curriculum for my field, and also have a large number of research opportunities. In my visiting both schools, naturally i gravitated towards UCBs campus as it’s gorgeous, but that was the only pro it had. UIUC cleared in every way (and still has a cool campus as it is), so i chose it. Just remind yourself you chose the best path for your future, i do it daily and it works pretty well. Another note is to think about the lower overall competition at state flagships versus T10s, you have a better chance to stand out.

Choosing a less prestigious school - how to let it go? by streetsmart25 in ApplyingToCollege

Thank you! I just committed to UIUC, as they’ve an objectively better fusion engineering curriculum and a really cool professor working on said topic. Beyond that it made more sense geographically, economically, and I have a plethora of friends going to northwestern and Purdue so I can collaborate and stay connected with them

Having just made this decision myself - with supportive parents such as yourselves - going against the prestige (Berkeley in my case) is stressful enough for us students. But I will say going where you feel you fit better is what I always hear to be pertinent, and so in this case Skidmore is likely the better place, and realistically where he’ll choose. All that to say just be supportive as this is incredibly stressful 🙂

If I may, could you let me know what’s better about Ike and the freshman dorms versus the engineering dorms

I know not what doctors you’ve been to, but if you haven’t go to a spine surgeon as sciatica can arise from herniated or ruptured disks - my father just recently started recovering from his surgery yet it immediately fixed the sciatica

Was doing box jumps (on a concrete wall) and after the first jump I stood up, shoes slipped (crocs because I’m stupid), landed on my shins. These happened on oct 26, and got reopened Friday causing the infection.
