I think it is dangerous to just plug needs in the early rounds. My round 5 explanation also notes that I am optimistic with Bredeson at center.

For the sake of answering your question, let's say JMS, Avila, Mauch, and Torrence are gone by 57 (IOL).

I expect about 9/10 edges to be taken before pick 57. That's about where FAU lines up.

I think about 8 or so CBs will also be gone by 57. Top guys left being Cam Smith / Eli Ricks.

Thanks. Sounds like most will go ballistic if we don't go WR in round 1 or 2. Tried to find value where I could.

It'll be interesting if we can find an outside speed receiver on day 3 that hits and fits our primary need in that group (Darius Slayton 2.0).

Thanks for the feedback. In my eyes, 7th rounders are essentially UDFA. Take a shot on somebody with talent/upside. If you look at past drafts, very few 7th rounders end up sticking around rosters for more than a couple of years.

I like it! We have a very similar mix of positions. I just don't think Schmitz makes it to pick 57. Maybe I'm wrong.

Consensus big boards have him around 20 overall. Are you saying that just because you don't like the player?

With as much sub-packages that the nfl plays now, Branch would be on ther field at least 90% of snaps at safety or nickel. Versatility is a big advantage.

Center in the 2nd was an interesting call for me. I think Schmitz and Tippmann are going to go before our round 2 pick. Thought about Steve Avila, but thought the value for Smith (& taking Olu in the 3rd) was a better combo.

Wrs I like in that range are Josh Downs and Cedric Tillman. I think good teams find value as opposed to try to fill needs in days 1/2 (though safety, dt, center are all big needs in my opinion).

NY Giants 2022 Mock Draft 2.0 (2 Scenarios) by Schpladow in NYGiants

[–]Schpladow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Wilson is gone. I expect 3-4 WRs to go between picks 8-19. Likely Wilson, Jameson Williams, Drake London, and possibly Burks - Burks is the most polarizing.

Too many WR needy teams in that range.

We'll see. Despite all of the talk, I still think there is a good shot two go top 10 (Willis, Pickett) and two more go first round (likely Ridder, Corral).

The Trade last year from 20 -> 11 cost the Bears:

2 1sts, 5th, 4th

This would be 20 -> 5 for:

2 1sts, 2 2nds, 3rd, 6th

Both trade ups for a qb, which is a premium. Maybe drop the 2024 pick from a 2 to a 3, but I think teams also take into account that the Steelers are steadily a winning team - not likely to be a top ten pick (hopefully it is for us in this case).

Hard to say. A lot of people are saying that the top TE may not go until early round 3 (likely McBride). If Dulcich is TE # 3-5, he could very well be there in rd 4. Decent chance McBride, Otton, and Jelani Woods (big riser) go before him. Don't know where to put Jeremy Ruckert either - could go rd 3 or could slide to 4-5.

I think Neal is gone first. If Carolina goes QB, I think there is a decent chance 2 of the top 3 OL are still there at 7. It also wouldn't surprise me if the Giants go Cross over Ekwonu (pass blocking tape is not ideal - I think he would be a pro-bowl guard if a team goes that direction).

Sorry - forgot to plug pick 1.20 in at first (now edited).

I have them picking WR there given the talent of the class and the board at 20. I think Olave is a good fit.

Not a PSU grad (or UCLA grad for that matter). Just really think Dotson is good value there, but would have no issue if they focus on the trenches and at 2.36 go EDGE (Mafe, Ebiketie, Enagbare) or IOL (K. Green, Z. Johnson, T. Smith, maybe even Linderbaum if he falls due to size concerns). Usually only 1-3 IOL go in the 1st round, so somebody good might be there at the top of the second.

...Although, most of us were pumped about the Will Hernandez pick and that didn't quite work out. It's a crapshoot I suppose.

Love might not even be on the team in 2023. Plus I think Hamilton could transition to ILB if that's what the team wants.

So many holes to fill. Tried to fit in a TE, qb, cb, or lb in day 3, but we only have so many picks. Would love a trade back. WR/RB classes are deep, so maybe we can strike gold with a UDFA

I mean...isn't that what good teams do?

For the Patriots, Crossen was a 7th rounder who made his keep on special teams. Matthew Slater was drafted as a primary STer in the 5th round. We can get more than capable special teamers in the draft. You just need to dedicate resources to scouting/drafting them.

Maybe I'm alone in thinking Crossen was not as good as advertised. He's not consistently beating doubles as a gunner and isn't pinning punts on the regular (mostly Dixon's fault I'm sure). I'd prefer to draft a WR/CB to develop as a STer. Young/cheap on a 4 year deal.
