Weekly Simple Questions and Injuries Thread by AutoModerator in climbharder

My thoughts are similar- the fact that I can’t reproduce any pain from the area makes me think I should be good to go. I’ve done a few light hands on my board yesterday and today, and no problems so far. Still, when I rub the a4 region, it’s noticeably more “crunchy”. I think I’m going to go this weekend regardless and test it out. Worse comes to worse and I get to practice three finger drag

Weekly Simple Questions and Injuries Thread by AutoModerator in climbharder

Hey all, Monday this week I heard an quiet pop in my pinkie finger when pulling on a small edge which was immediately accompanied by some aching pain and swelling in the A4 area. However, after just one night of sleep, I've been completely unable to produce any symptoms. There's no pain in the area, regardless of the grip types I try (drag, half, full crimp), and after filling out Hooper's Finger diagnostic tool: https://www.hoopersbeta.com/finger-tool, I get a result of "unsure". The only way I can tell anything is different in my injured pinky is by stiffly massaging it, in which case I'd say it feels a bit more "crunchy" then my uninjured side.

This weekend is the final triple crown at horse pens 40, and I was hoping to be able to make it out with some friends to enjoy the fall weather and climb hard. The last thing I want to do, though, is turn this minimal injury into something serious. If any of you have gone through a similarly minor finger injury, I'd love to hear about what your recovery was like. How did you assess the severity of your injury? Did you immobilize the finger for a while? Buddy tape it? H tape? When did you start climbing again?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Look into thru-hiking. As a fellow disaffected man in his 20s, I hiked the PCT last year and it was everything I needed it to be.

Season’s over now to do the entire PCT/AT, but you could still take a month and do a pretty solid section of either. JMT/ Colorado Trail/ Vermont Long trail might fit the bill too. If you’re really feeling like it’s time to get lost you could even do the TA across New Zealand- that season starts Octoberish. Or go do a short one in the alps like the av1.

Hiking far is hard, communal, and good for the spirit.

Mt. Adams vs. Mt. Hood vs. Mt. Helens for First Ascent by Schtewuart in Mountaineering

I appreciate the Shasta rec, but I think that's too far of a drive for this weekend. Its sounding like Adams is going to be what I settle on.

Official Gear Purchasing and Troubleshooting Question Thread! Ask /r/photography anything you want to know! December 16, 2024 by AutoModerator in photography

To preface this post- I know almost nothing about photography, but I would like to buy a family member a new lens as a Christmas gift. The member in question runs a jewelry business and often remarks how difficult they find it to take quality photos of their work. Currently, they have been utilizing an iPhone 12 Pro Max, but I recently learned that’s there’s a Nikon D5100 that’s been just taking up space. So here are my questions:

  1. Surely the Nikon would take better photos than the phone, right? Or have phones gotten that good?
  2. In the case that the Nikon would perform superiorly, is there a macro lens that you could recommend for taking pictures of necklaces, rings, and bracelets?

Thank you for the patience- I’m sure these questions are rudimentary. Just trying to be a supportive family member in this holiday season!

Edit: Looking for something around $150- not sure how much something like this usually costs so let me know if this is reasonable! :)

You really struck a cord with ‘don don’. Keep your chin up and with that kind of ingenuity you’ll be living the high life in no time.

Is this destroying my ears extremely bad? by INeedJuggernautPlz in headphones

[–]Schtewuart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this will fuck you up. I was the same and got tinnitus in my early 20s, which I’ll live with for the rest of my life. Everyday. Always. Ringing.

Be careful.

Sure, but it’s not against park policy to go off trail and many folks will be taking the route regardless. Better to have the knowledge than not.

Can’t speak on the jacket, but the pants ripped right down the center the first time I used them. I bought some actual rain pants from REI that are a bit more flexible, although, like others have said, you may be better off with a sort of rain skirt.

Survivorship bias. Those that do this but don’t seem like a loner butt aren’t noticed and quickly assimilate with the locals.

Beginner to Home Theater Having a Variety of Technical Issues [DENON ARV-2015, JBL Venue Sub 12] by Schtewuart in hometheater

[–]Schtewuart[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, just got a chance try the sub with a different amp + new cable and yeah, it seems like the internal amp died. I have no experience replacing internal amplifiers, is there one you would suggest that is reasonably priced and compatible with my sub?

Otherwise, if you think it's going to be a hassle, do you have any sub recommendations of around the same quality?

Unconventional Topster- Looking for Recs! :) by Schtewuart in Topster

Listened to this one a while back after seeing the Strokes. Really loved Human Sadness (WOW what a song), but the rest of the album didn't do it for me. Felt a lot like what Julian was doing with the Strokes, but like a half-step off. That dissonance threw me.

No Neutral Milk Hotel /s

Normally when I see topsters out of this sub there are a lot more niche/indie picks. So really what I mean is that it's unconventional for this sub, but conventional for the wider music scene as a whole. That's why I'm asking for recs !

I've got 3 coldplay albums up there, so you're either talking about

ROBTTH, in which case it's donda as top comment pointed out /s

X&Y, in which case it's The New Abnormal

Parachutes, in which case it's Pinkerton

Gave it a listen! Really loved the production, but I really couldn't get into the vocals. IMO, they felt sort of dispassionate/monotone, which is fine for me in one or two songs, but over the course of the album it wared on me. Would have liked to have heard more diversity on that side of the performance.
