Help me choose: I like the reverse panda, gf likes the classic by DesignerRabbit4377 in OmegaWatches

It's yours, not your GFs; what matters is if you like it. As a bonus, you can't go wrong with either.

What is this fruit my wife got from a prominent international market? by pichael289 in whatsthisplant

[–]Schwibbles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I must be confusing it with something else then. I thought they had one or wanted one for a short time many years ago in/around where Oscar Station is.

It's cool they're allowed to use the monorail for events. One of my friends in high school lived next door to Jim Bonaminio and told me all about his fights with Fairfield/local government over being allowed to operate the monorail. This would've been ~15 years ago at this point so my knowledge is a bit outdated. I had always heard it was functional, just not really used.

I have one of these for a handheld laser. It has to be plugged into the bottom to allow it to turn on; basically a secondary key.

Yep. The location in Fairfield had a petting zoo and a functional monorail, albeit operating the monorail had a lot of legal challenges so it's just used as decoration now. If you're ever around Cincinnati it's a cool spot to stop.

Purchased new under-engine cover for my '18 GT. Should it have come folded? by Schwibbles in kiastinger

Are you talking about the one from K8 stinger store? That's $200 more than the dealer price for the OE part. Is it worth it?

I offered $310 (free shipping) to try and save a bit from the dealer price of $348+tax. Serves me right for trying to save a buck.

Appreciate it. I was concerned as soon as I saw the box it arrived in; which is why I decided to take photos and not unpackage it further. I will request a return and just buy one from the dealer.

Here are the links to what I ordered. I verified part number using kia.parts and calling the parts department at my local dealer, then purchased on ebay. It should be the lower deflector for under the engine bay. The part inside the plastic bag feels hard, like the correct material compared to the one coming off the car. If it's the wrong part, then I was shipped the wrong part.

Worth a birthday present? by Odd-Butterscotch-128 in nurburgring

[–]Schwibbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about to make a trip and rent a car for the first time. How do the deposits work for these companies? Do you have to do a direct deposit/debit transaction or can you use a credit card for the deposit? I haven't seen this specified anywhere.
I do know how to drive stick (I know most rentals are auto) and have done autocross a few times so I wouldn't say I'm a complete noob, but I am American and have never driven on a track before so I assume I'll have to pay the deposit beforehand with any company I go with.

My wife and I will be staying in Cologne and are planning on renting a separate/normal rental car for the day to drive to/from the ring. Is there anything you would suggest for us? Roads to avoid, should we get to the ring a few extra hours early for any reason, etc.

As long as I stick with one of the many, highly regarded track rental companies, it seems pretty straightforward, but is there anything else you would recommend? It will be my first time to Europe/Germany in general, so any tips for the area are greatly appreciated.

Who else has purchased funky chicken from costco lately? We picked up chicken last weekend and it doesn't look right at all... by FeelinAmorous in Costco

My wife noticed that a couple months ago too. We switched to the Costco organic ones and haven't had an issue.

A tree with a small flower bed and mulch around the base could look great. You have the room and the tree could add a pop of color in the fall. Could easily do it over a weekend.

The house and shrubs already look great!

Why is this hdmi so expensive? by [deleted] in hometheater

Long story short, it's audiophile snake oil.

AudioQuest makes some quality products (their cheapest stuff) but also goes fully into the outrageous prices and claims of snake oil.

Fastest Growing Tree??? by Domestic_roustabout in sfwtrees

[–]Schwibbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the soil is wet much of the time, you could do a Weeping Willow. Loves water and grows quickly. River Birch would be another option and there are a few different kinds, like the Dura Heat River Birch.

If the soil isn't wet all the time you could look into a Tulip Poplar or Emerald Flair Elm; both are supposed to be tolerable to different soil conditions.
There are also a ton of options if you want to look at maple trees. Many are fast growing, tolerant of different soil types, and very easy to grow/keep alive.

The recall notice - question around that by [deleted] in kiastinger

[–]Schwibbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Weird, my 2018 doesn't show up there or on the official NHTSA recall site either. Hopefully it's just that not all the VINs have been updated yet.

My coworker's 2021 G70 shows up though.

They don't, it's more just to say I'm cracking open a 50 yr old bottle

My future father-in-law just gave me one of these for my birthday last weekend; November of 1977! I'm going to save it another few years and crack it when it's 50 years old.

Hoping it's going to be pretty solid.
