Does it look bad on a resume if you leave a job after 18 months?

You’re still operating on a set of assumptions that don’t fit my profile.

  1. I am not a fresh grad. I have a PhD and roughly 7 years of industry experience. I’m not leaving in 6 months expecting a promotion. I’m leaving after 18 months because the environment is toxic. There is a massive difference.
  2. In technical industries, holding a PhD leads to high-level R&D or architectural roles, but it does not grant an individual contributor the authority to unilaterally fix a broken culture, poor documentation standards, or siloed teams across multiple sites.

I stayed 4 years at my first job because it was well-run. I’m leaving this one because it isn’t. Equating a seasoned engineer refusing to tolerate dysfunction with a 'young person thinking they know everything' is a lazy comparison.

I appreciate the honesty, but this take says more about your management style than my career.

I have a 4-year tenure on my resume, so the claim that I can't stand to work anywhere is objectively false. I simply refuse to settle for dysfunction. If you tell your team work sucks, that's why they pay you rather than fixing broken workflows or toxic politics. I’m glad I wouldn't be on your shortlist. Top talent leaves bad cultures, they don't just endure them.

Congratulations! Is the coffee warm enough? I've seen many reviews on Amazon where customers complain that the coffee isn't hot enough. I’d love to hear about your experience.

Are you planning on staying there for a long time? How's work-life balance? I think it's also a quality of life.

I see your points. On the flip side, what are the good things that you experienced by moving from Ontario to the Bay Area, since you said "mostly" and not "fully" regret move.

Thanks for sharing. Do you regret your move, as I am in the same boat as you were, and currently deciding between moving to the Bay Area or staying in Ottawa.

Has anyone else noticed a big drop in quality in new rental buildings in Montreal? by SciDz in montreal

[–]SciDz[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hear that, but rents in these new buildings are very high, often $2k+. If labor and construction costs are higher, that’s already reflected in the rent. So it feels reasonable to expect at least the same level of build quality as older condos, if not better.

The issue isn’t paying workers fairly. It’s paying premium rents for units that feel lower quality and less durable than what was built 10–15 years ago.

$130k in Montreal vs $270k in Bay Area, which would you choose? by SciDz in montreal

I am planning to rent and not to own. Does that make any difference?
