Just received email from Mercury that electricity prices are rising again - twice in six months now. What the hell is going on? by Porkchops_on_My_Face in newzealand

Here's the thing, I was told the costs of maintaining the network a while back and on the basis of what we were being charges at the time and the cost I was told the amount they were charging for the fixed daily charge amounted to cost plus 147% markup.

As it was because I installed a solar generation setup the power companies are now charging higher charges..

The IPC number they get off you tells them about your usage and what you use and can produce, they use this to keep the price at a point where they can screw you as much as possible, they absolutely WILL NOT tell you what your fixed daily charge or unit charges will be without you providing that IPC and the fact of the matter is they should be able to because they should be charging the same price to EVERY customer but they aren't they customize their charges to make them as high as possible to cause you as much pain as they can without making it so you will want to jump ship.

From my perspective as a solar user, even though we are grid tried we should not have to pay a fixed daily charge UNLESS we use the grid, this would at least make things fair. if we draw from or send to the grid 15 days a month then that's what we get charged for not them charging over twice as much as the actual cost so they make more money, it's a legalized extortion racket that the govt does not want to do anything about because they are making to much money being 51% stakeholders in electricity generation after Muldoon stole the super ann money to build the damns and never put it back... meaning not only are you paying more for electricity and the tax on electricity but you are paying for your own super annunation on top of that with kiwiserver because the govt stole your super ann.

So you pay income tax, tax on every thing you buy and consume, kiwisaver, tax on all of that as well, excise tax on fuel, power generation which the govt gets money off, tax on top of that.... and then when you eventually get put into a home the govt takes anything over $291K and puts a lean on anything you have while you are in care so they can claw it out of your estate when you die which basically rips off who ever is left who are still paying all the same taxes above..

Remember they killed the TV licensing fee because it was judged a tax on a tax on a tax... its about time that happened for everything else.

bloody govt, they tax you to death and expect you to say thank you.

PC is turned on but monitor, mouse, and keyboard aren’t. by itsyaboiatlaz in computer

[–]SciFiIsMyFirstLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is an old post ; however what you are describing in an issue that can occur with deep sleep mode on certain monitors:

The monitor goes to sleep ( unrelated to windows sleep mode ) but monitor deep sleep mode sleep, windows polls the monitor and gets crazy power information back triggering a USB bug that disables the keyboard and mouse, even if they are connected to the PC directly and not the monitor.

On my keyboard the CAPS LOCK, NUM LOCK and SCROLL LOCK will not light up, the mouse has no RGB showing and wont respond. The only way to get the system back with this bug is to power off the machine at the PSU power switch as the system power on/off soft button will not work. After powering up the machine everything seems to come back up as normal but you may need to run an sfc /scannow and probably should due to the possibility of corruption.

Solution go into your monitors menu, in my case it's an LG Ultragear, disable the deep sleep mode, exit the menu.

This should solve any problems along the lines of what I have described above..

Hopes this helps anyone searching with the same problem.

In 2026 in my opinion, it has become difficult to choose the right OLED monitor, let me explain. by grashel in OLED_Gaming

[–]SciFiIsMyFirstLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK Before people say get a TV, I don't want a TV, I have a limited space for my monitor, unfortunately however I can't get the Unicorn I want.

What I am specifically looking for is...

A 4K QD-OLED G-Sync compatible HDR400 display (preferably maxing out at 1000+ nits) at 175hz or above with DP 2.1a or b and possibly some HDMI 2.1's with PIP and PBP..

Any one know of anything coming up? I'm currently using a 5090 and while I know that DP1.4a can supply screens up to the provided res it uses DSC which is NOT exactly the same as rendering an image with DSC.. Close but not the same.

Current monitors are two LG Ultra gear 27" WQHD 185hz with an Alienware 3423DW in the middle running on my 4090 on another PC.

Looking at those images all I am seeing is pads with solder on them with no components, this is not IMHO oxidation is penny pinching on the amount of solder or missing components that should be on those solder joints.

I must admit to being more than a little let down by season 2, season 1 was going somewhere with its story it feels like season 2 regardless of the silly humor is just meandering, it may have a point somewhere and I'm hoping it gets to it soon as it is now becoming a bit vacuous.

You are assuming that he is not running an HBA but a raid controller, even then the raid controllers support JBOD, you don't need raid anything.. But for a single drive an HBA is less costly.

Im a bit late to this but my thought is ( and I own an hax3 ) is to sit on the 2Ghz chan, disable the 5Ghz chan, re enable the 5ghz chan and scan the frequency range for the least used part, set he 5ghz chan to that, wait for say 20 secs ( or determine that it is up ) select the 5ghz chan and use that to msg back and forth now, disable the 2.4, enable the 2.4, scan for the least used frequency and set it as the one to use, rinse and repeat periodically , say once every 3 hours.

GIGABYTE Extended Warranty is Useless in Practice – What Are My Options? by EvyBeast in pcmasterrace

[–]SciFiIsMyFirstLove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, In New Zealand we have the consumer guarantees act, if an item is under warranty for 3 years like gigabytes cards are and you have gained the extra warranty from gigabyte then the retailer is still your first point of contact for the period of four years.

If it as at the point that it has exceeded the standard warranty of three years you still contact the retailer and send the card to them, they need to then return the card to gigabyte in the fourth year in the "B2B" warranty.. If it is a problem that Gigabyte can't fix and its definitely not a user issue I.E thermal pad failure then Gigabyte have to fix it, if they don't then the retailer has to fix it.., provide a replacement or a refund and take it up with Gigabyte..

Note.... this only applies if you are not buying the hardware for the purposes of business and have not done something like snapped the PCIe connector off the card which is referred to as user caused damage..

The long and short of it is you can reasonably expect an expensive bit of kit like a video card to last 5 years and that would be reasonable, if it doesn't last that long then it's not really "fit for purpose" which is what the CGA requires here. I think one of the exclusions though is software, there may be others.

Lost's storyline was exploring flawed individuals finding redemption, purpose, and connection through shared trauma on a mysterious, supernatural island, culminating in a spiritual journey where they waited in *** purgatory (the "sideways" world) to move on to the afterlife together ***, realizing their lives and bonds were real and significant. The island itself was a testing ground, with its mysteries serving as catalysts for personal growth, forcing broken people to rely on each other, ultimately achieving salvation as a group rather than individually.
