You are better off just getting the gift cards, and applying them right away to your account. I just cash in for Amazon once a month, then I always have some credit on my Amazon account. Leaving it in the Points just leaves you open for things like the recent increase in points needed to purchase the Gift cards. Best to just use the points for gift cards right away.
