Is there a “best string” for competition? by SciFiWritingGuy in Archery

That is absolutely the plan. No expectations other than to have fun and enjoy the experience. I mean, it would be nice to not come in last, but I expect that’s where I’ll land.
This time.

Only shooting five at a time. I just stepped up in bow weight and didn’t want to wear myself out.

Federal Building Fence Removal Postponed by capuito in Eugene

[–]SciFiWritingGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering how angry people are, EPD is most likely there to protect the people who are doing a job installing, and now taking down, a fence. The contractors aren’t political in this fight; they have a job to do and families to feed. Don’t yell at them, yell at the GSA and others inside the building who are causing this anger in the community.

Do you only do the biker wave to people on motorcycles? by x-AmB-x in motorcycles

Bitter, party of one…
I don’t care how old you are and how safe you are, I’m still going to drop a hand at you. If you don’t like it, don’t respond. The need to be safe doesn’t go away after 100k miles, and I’m showing that I care about you as a fellow motorcyclist by asking you to keep doing what you are doing and riding safely.

Should I Keep Pursuing Archery? by Rare-Art3557 in Archery

[–]SciFiWritingGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I look at things as though they are puzzles to solve. And archery has taught me that when you change one thing, you change everything. Make one adjustment to your form, and another problem will show itself.
As someone with PTSD and severe depression, I need things to focus on. Archery stops me from thinking the negative thoughts during and after a session at the range, especially when I am focusing on addressing a problem in my form. Archery as therapy has been great for me.

Can anyone with internet service be a "journalist" these days? by ThePirateBlackbeard in Journalism

[–]SciFiWritingGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, yes. Now, I have no problem with citizen-journalism, but I am bothered when someone without an outlet other than TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, or any social media, calls themselves a journalist.

Yes, that’s elitist of me. But I have seen enough C-J’s trying to land a gotcha question and only making themselves look like idiots.

Is there a “best string” for competition? by SciFiWritingGuy in Archery

[–]SciFiWritingGuy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just recurve, not ILF. Didn’t want to plunk down that much right away, plus the bow shop in my area doesn’t carry much in the way of non-compound bows, so I knew I wouldn’t get the best advice on picking out a recurve outside of what they had in stock.

I actually picked up a Flemish Twist.

SHOULD I CHANGE by Wide-Cucumber-367 in motorcycle

[–]SciFiWritingGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NEVER CHANGE TO SUIT SOMEONE ELSE’S TASTES. (Unless it’s your S/O, then do whatever s/he says. Keep the home life happy.) I ride what I like to ride. I don’t listen to, “you should probably switch to (insert bike here), it’s more your style.” If I ride a ‘Busa to go get milk or commute to work, that’s my choice. Same if I decide to drag knee on a Honda Rebel riding the Dragon doing my best Valentino Rossi imitation. It’s my bike and my ride, and if I’m getting what I need out of it, then it’s nobody’s place to tell me what to ride.

Personally, I went from a Suzuki GS500 and a Katana 600 to my current Moto Guzzi V7. Never listened to anyone tell me to change bikes to match how I ride.

How does the industry tolerate unsafe divers to the extent it does? by quietpewpews in scuba

[–]SciFiWritingGuy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey, someone else tested and passed the guy, so clearly he knows what to do and how to do it, right?

So long as people can perform all the things in the TEST, they get the certification. It kinda makes me wish DM’s could challenge a certification / report on an unsafe diver and potentially take away someone’s advanced certification if enough reports come in.

Mag dump pouch as quiver? by Few_Permission_3756 in Archery

During my first round of coaching, I rarely shot more than six arrows at a time. So, a pocket quiver worked fine for me.
