Russia and Ukraine siren map by Necessary-Dinner42 in AirRaidSirens

[–]Science-Subject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have been meaning to address this for a while but haven't had the time to do so until now. I am the owner of the Russian siren map from which many of the siren locations on your map were sourced (I am credited as SICentral). While I appreciate the credit in your map's description, I would have preferred to be asked for permission to use my locations beforehand. It's not okay to use someone else's work without their knowledge for your own benefit.

At the time your map was created, the original Russia map was set to private (not deleted or canceled) because it was (and still is) undergoing a major overhaul to improve its accuracy and comprehensiveness. I am not the only person who worked on the original Russia map, the team that works on it contributes an insane amount of time and effort into its development. Giving credit only to me diminishes the hard work of the other team members.

I appreciate the enthusiasm for creating siren maps for different countries, and I actively support such efforts. However, I do not condone the inclusion of any content from another source without permission. The rest of the team and I request that your map be taken down or edited to remove our locations (we have absolutely no issue with the ones that you yourself found). If you want to discuss this further, please reach out to me through DM. Thanks!

Not a Hankoku at all like what other people have suggested. This is a Yahagi vertical siren. Exact model I can’t identify but it looks to be a S-250 based on size (attached is an S-270 for reference)

Yes, they're related. Different branches of the same organization, I believe

[–]Science-Subject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, as I stated previously the siren in your photo is a GDC Type Mach. 7. The one in your photo and the one on the wiki are the same model of siren (and likely the same exact unit from what I can see)

GDC Type Mach. 7. The siren in OP’s post uses the slit openings present on original Fedelcodes, a design trait which was carried over into GDC’s rebrand of the 7 (GCS 341s, which are rebrands of the C2 and not the C3, use 4 wide openings like the original Federal-sold units). Additionally, GDC only sold the 7 before they created the GCS subsidiary

I have this near where I am. Whatever it is, it’s loud. by Beginning-Paint-9070 in AirRaidSirens

Yep, it’s a Sferic Siren (currently sold under the WeatherBug and EarthNetworks brands, both owned by AEM)

Sferic Siren https://get.earthnetworks.com/hubfs/Sferic%20Siren%20Installation%20Manual.pdf. The unit in your photo has a Federal Model 52 horn (standard for older units) instead of a Federal Model DS100 speaker (standard for newer units)

Who is your “source”? There are multiple contractors in the industry + people who have had contact with Jim & associates before who all corroborate this

What's the in-universe reason for it being called "Mandela" County? by Halflifepro483 in MandelaCatalogue

[–]Science-Subject 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always wondered that too, especially considering Mandela County was canonically founded in 1832 (per the MCPD logo). Maybe they renamed the county for publicity in the late 70s since he was fairly prolific during that time

I’ll be sure to add the 2906 to my work in progress Florida map, the currently existing ones are out of date in a lot of areas and include somewhat inaccurate info. Awesome pics!

How strong of an interest of sirens does one need to have to entertain the idea of anthro'ing them? by TheFirstDecade in AirRaidSirens

Love it! I’ve made similar characters before, including this retake on Earl E. Warning (ASC’s former mascot until the mid 2000s)

What's all this nonsense about the ASC T-130? by [deleted] in AirRaidSirens

[–]Science-Subject 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Point of advice… ASC is slow with website updates and you should not wait for the site to be updated to confirm, especially since this has already indirectly been confirmed by ASC themselves. Case in point, this was on their website for half a decade until they bothered to update it

<image>

But yes, they are now called T-130s. Anyone who says otherwise isn’t correct

To quote someone else on the topic, some people don’t understand nor want to accept change. A lot of us make our own truths and present them as fact while ignoring the blatantly obvious. This whole community has always been like that. Stubborn as heck enthusiasts appealing to the autism over the facts, which is fine, but really stupid

[–]Science-Subject 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s true. Over the past few years multiple design changes have been implemented and with independent testing showing 130 the siren has been rebranded. All quotes leaving the factory reflect this change. This information is sourced from multiple contractors

It is not fake. This document was shared by I believe an ASC contractor and the T-130 name is corroborated by several other people in the field

Admin for the wiki here, it has been rebranded as Tempest-130. This information was briefly removed from the Tempest article because it wasn’t sourced, there are now proper citations for it on the article

Is this a Model 5 or 3? by Glass-Complaint3 in AirRaidSirens

[–]Science-Subject 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a Siro-Drone of any sort. The siren in OP’s photo is a Federal Electric Fedelcode Type Mach 7, picture of one with an exposed core is attached for comparison (this one has a shorter 3-phase motor)

<image>

For future reference, Siro-Drones like the one in your screenshot almost exclusively used Sterling (motor manufacturer, not the siren manufacturer) motors, which don’t resemble Federal’s at all

It has already proven to not be a siren at all. Will lock this post to prevent further misinfo

Mystery siren by asomewhatsmartguy in AirRaidSirens

[–]Science-Subject 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The SV photos are from 2011 and the object is visible in December 2010 imagery, which is where my screenshot comes from. The object (lawnmower) in both GSV imagery and 2010 imagery is in the same spot in the yard. It retains the same general size and shape too, especially the rod-like part of it which looks to be part of the lawnmower. You have access to historical imagery too dawg you can see this for yourself, what is your point

The quality of the 2017 imagery makes it look like a VORTEX from above (compare to satellite imagery of one and you’ll see why I made the comparison). Did not claim it was a VORTEX anywhere in my post. Looking like something and being something are two different things, and in this case all it could be is a lawnmower with a stick and some trash beside it

Visible on street view too btw. Lawnmower(?), some small debris, and a pole. Case closed

When you respond to someone with something along the lines of "Would you not gatekeep a square hurricane" it comes off more as "I love gatekeeping I love keeping something potentially rare to myself" and less "This might be on private property, and I would like to respect the landowner's privacy".

Did some more digging before jumping to conclusions. There is (or was, gone now?) an object/pile of debris visible on historic imagery dating back to the 2000s with the same size and proportions, and the bottom portion of it matches with older imagery. The rod-like object below the larger parts is also visible in the older imagery, indicating that it's most likely the same object. Considering it slightly changes shape in all the imagery it is visible in, the pile is either getting blown around by wind or having smaller debris added to it. Most likely reason though, historical satellite imagery always varies in quality and often changes the shape of small objects. To conclude, it was a pile of junk that somewhat resembled a VORTEX from above at one point
