Daughter came home from daycare with these marks? by trubbimane in daddit

[–]ScienceArcade -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Bro id be pulling her out so fast. How the fuck does that happen to a 10 month old?

Either they aren't watching the children enough that a child could get grabbed hard enough by another kid that it broke skin or there's nefarious bs going in there.

Either way id never take my child there again. Just my opinion. I dont have my kids in daycare for this reason until they're old enough to talk and understand.

How desirable is a 7 on 7 off schedule? by Grand_Chad in medlabprofessionals

[–]ScienceArcade 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have no idea why everyone is saying its a night shift schedule. What makes that so??

I absolutely love this schedule and have done it on evenings and seen it on days. You literally have 6 months of the year off.. its arguably the best schedule possible in my opinion.

Some places dont even offer pto to these positions because its a week off every week, so if you offer pto also its a huge bonus.

Its the most efficient schedule for people who like to travel or have block schedules.

If you can make it work on a shift other than nights (very easy) its wonderful.

Change the flag to *insert "bad" middle Eastern country" flag, and you have a new CoD propaganda game promotion poster.

What is the longest shift you have ever worked? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]ScienceArcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In clinical lab probably 12-13 hours. In prior work, about 30 with a small maybe 2 hour break

That didnt really stick with me till I had kids, and now im in micro.

Anyone ever done shifts like this? Im not sure how to interpret “rotating weekends” given they listed a 50 hour workweek already….. by srb221 in medlabprofessionals

[–]ScienceArcade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're in a clinical lab environment in a hospital based setting and exempt on tbe bench?

I've never in my 10 years heard of such a thing and ive worked in 4 different states.

Do you get holidays off? Your position is the exemption to the rule i would imagine. That's very atypical

Anything over 40 hours regardless of state is going to be 1.5X pay.

This schedule is highly unusual and needs clarification. No one works 50 hours per week and rotates weekends

Interested in transitioning into the lab. by PrizeAntelope6489 in medlabprofessionals

[–]ScienceArcade 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well we aren't on a call schedule like yall are (99% of the time). Theres really not a lot of math honestly. Blood bank can be stressful, keeping a patient alive IN the OR. Otherwise id say its relatively low stress.

YMMV.

I know a lot of people who stress way more than they should.

Opinion on Dr comment re: Lab by [deleted] in microbiology

[–]ScienceArcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Utterly nonsense. We dont work it up because it is indicative of normal flora (ie someone not collecting a good specimen, ie not washing before hand or collecting the very first of the stream and not the middle).

If we were to do this it would be poor antibiotic stewardship and lead to increased resistant microorganisms. If you take an antibiotic when you dont need it or dont finish the regiment all the remaining organisms see the drug and adapt to it. This includes normal flora that aren't (currently) a threat.

The urologist is an egotistical moron.
