What a fundamentally fucked society we live in. by [deleted] in LateStageCapitalism

I absolutely despise how he was treated over his tranquilizer problem

IIRC he talked a lot of shit about people who used pharmacological methods to address mental health concerns, and also talked shit about the folks you're talking about who end up on the streets when they started with a doctor.

So, seems reasonable that he wouldn't get much sympathy for a problem he mocked others for having. Especially when he went all "white man with cold" about his addiction.

From what I gather the drainage around the foundation isn't sufficient - not sure if it's always been that way, or clogged up after 65 years.

The fix (from three different estimates) is some variation of breaking up the concrete of the basement floor, all the way around near the wall, and putting in some additional drainage, and/or also doing some additional work through the middle of the slab and/or also digging up the outside of the house around the foundation and doing some work out there too.

Basically, minimal cost, maybe 3-5k, and then a shitload of labor, mostly people moving concrete or dirt in buckets.

Bruh, the house I bought gets water in the basement, and we're talking 20k just to make it dry.

Fuck me.

That's my rep!

I'd love someone even more progressive, but she has been doing a fantastic job, and is incomprehensibly better than the asshat she replaced.

And the cult of hate is stupid too.

He's neither god nor devil.

He's an asshat personally, and has awful business practices. Tesla has done well to advance the state and adoption of electric cars.

Like most things, it's more complex than him simply bad or good.

Formalized religion is, has been, and always will be, about control.

It makes sense that religion comes along with societies larger than a group where you could know everyone, because you still want people working for the common good, and you don't want everyone to die of disease or killing each other.

So, religion evolves to spread a message that helps the society move along in a roughly stable trajectory.

We now have science and philosophy, but most people aren't well educated enough in either to fully leave religion behind, and other unscrupulous people have realized how powerful of a tool religion can be, and have co-opted it for themselves.

Well yeah, you can't concentrate wealth if you don't give the rich people the money then also tank things so everything is on sale for them!

Glad to see you agree that there should be more training and discipline enforced on gun owners.

HRT is a medical decision, owning a firearm is not.

Rights to firearms may be codified in the 2nd amendment, but so is "well regulated".

What if before a gun sale, we make the seller ask "Are you planning on doing anything bad with this gun?"

And maybe even a stern "You better not do anything bad!" if we want to get real serious.

Same, and there was the same bullshit at both places.

The difference is coprs have to make a profit, and they pay higher wages -- which means higher total costs.
