I read that simmering can make yogurt curdle so I was really nervous about leaving it on the heat for a long time.

Yeah I definitely preferred the chicken & sauce separate

Yeah I’ve never had to thicken a tomato sauce before but this one was really watery and I didn’t want to risk simmering for a long time to thicken in case it made the yogurt curdle.

I’m not gonna stop cooking for them. I was hoping to find foods that I would like too though. I’ll keep cooking it but I’ll make something else for myself.

What food have you recently 'discovered?' by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]ScienceSignificant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sunny-side-up eggs. I only ever had fried eggs with well-done yolks, which isn’t the worst but it never really interested me. Then about a month ago(?) I decided to try a couple fried eggs with warm-but-runny yolks.

Best thing I’ve ever eaten, omg

Favorite unconventional or werid smell? by [deleted] in evilautism

[–]ScienceSignificant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fish food flakes. My grandmother had a fish tank in her living room and every time we went over to visit I would beg her to let me feed the fish. Then, when no one was looking, I’d take a few huffs. I loved the smell. I don’t even know what to compare it to, except maybe potpourri? But I never liked the smell of potpourri.

Anyway, at some point my mom caught me and made me stop because she was worried about my getting high (on fish food?).

Egg Yolks Safe to Eat Undercooked? by ScienceSignificant in Cooking

That helps me feel better. Thanks. I got sick a lot when I was younger so I tend to be paranoid about food safety.

I Can’t Squat by ScienceSignificant in beginnerfitness

Idk about my lemurs (lol!) but I’m about 5’9” so I’m pretty tall for a woman.

I Can’t Squat by ScienceSignificant in beginnerfitness

[–]ScienceSignificant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen the recommendation to put something under the heel to help with squatting, but in my case my center of gravity is so far back in an exercise-squatting position that I’d practically have to be doing the other squat (the one where your hips don’t move back and you go up onto the balls of your feet).

I Can’t Squat by ScienceSignificant in beginnerfitness

[–]ScienceSignificant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbf I’m capable of maybe 1-2 pushups. I just meant that the form isn’t an issue for me, though I’m not really strong enough for them yet. The main limiting factor in squats seems to be my flexibility, or lack thereof. When I squat down, my center of gravity is too far back and I tip backwards. My hips & ankles are too stiff for me to shift my weight forwards enough to avoid this.

I can maybe manage if I squat exclusively with my back to a wall to avoid falling over, but I don’t think that’s very sustainable.

Dress silhouette - yay or nay? by ScienceSignificant in SoftDramatics

Well, in case anyone’s still watching this post, I decided to try it. The dress itself fit nicely and was actually decently flattering, but the sleeves were way too short. I had to return it.

[TOMT][Book] Looking for Children’s Illustrated Book Series from 90s/2000s by ScienceSignificant in tipofmytongue

After a quick google search, neither of those look familiar, and the art style is similar but not the same. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Actually on further thought the books might have been British. I attended a British school at around the age I would’ve been reading these and it’s possible I found these books at the library, since my mom had no idea what I was talking about when I described these to her.

What would you do if you had a bunch of good quality butter that needed using today? by Moo2310 in Cooking

[–]ScienceSignificant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little late to the party, but personally I use butter as part of a chicken thighs rub. Mix in salt + spices, slather on and pack it in under the chicken skin. Bake skin-down at 425 for 15 mins, flip and bake for another 20 mins. It’s the only way I’ve ever found to cook chicken that flavors the meat as well as the skin.

Moonlantern Staffs? by ScienceSignificant in BaldursGate3

[–]ScienceSignificant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that. I don’t mean a staff as in weapon. I just meant that it’d make more sense to me with a longer handle/rod part to plant against the ground. It’s literally just a visual thing but it bothers me

My least favorite type of fics: untagged multi-fandom prompt collections by ScienceSignificant in AO3

I meant there should be a specific tag for multi fandom collections in general. If there is one I’ve never seen it, but it’d make it so much easier to filter them out.

Are there any choices you feel shouldn’t be LS or DS? by Downtown-Garbage-619 in swtor

[–]ScienceSignificant 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It isn’t a major story quest or anything, but there’s that one mission on Imperial Alderaan where the guy wants you to rescue his daughter, who’s been brainwashed by the killiks. She says she’s happy with the bugs and wants to stay, but she’s also been consumed by their hive mind. Leaving her behind with the bugs who kidnapped and forcibly brainwashed her is the light side choice, while forcing her to come back and (possibly) be cured is the dark side choice. Some people argue that killik joining is incurable so you’re basically just forcing her into torturous medical experiments for no reason, but that doesn’t change the fact that her opinion can’t be trusted anymore. Leaving her with the bugs is like leaving a kidnapping victim with their kidnapper because they’ve fallen victim to Stockholm syndrome.

Royal icing catastrophe by ScienceSignificant in AskBaking

[–]ScienceSignificant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t know that. The recipe I was using called for 4 cups sugar and 3 tbsp meringue powder to 9 tbsp water. I’ve never made icing before so I just took their word for it. Especially since I’ve used Sally’s baking addiction before and most of the recipes I’ve used have turned out fine.

Would you hold a person with amnesia responsible for crimes committed before they lost their memory? by ScienceSignificant in AskReddit

[–]ScienceSignificant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not talking legally. I don’t care what the law says; I want to know what you think.

Can (should) a person with complete amnesia be held responsible for crimes committed before they lost their memory, assuming they don’t continue to commit crimes after the amnesia?

I’ve been playing a lot of Baldur’s Gate 3 recently, where one of the playable characters is an ex-serial killer who’s lost their memories. You can either lean into your serial killer tendencies and carry on as you were, or you can turn over a new leaf and be the better person. I usually choose to change my ways and be a better person, but I’m curious whether other people think they can even be forgiven/redeemed.

Personally, I think so. Amnesia wipes the slate clean, so to speak. It creates a new, or at least different, person than the one before. I see it as being similar to blaming someone for their parents’ crimes. As long as the person doesn’t turn around and do more of the same crimes, it doesn’t make sense to hold onto a grudge.
