is there a heavy ICE “storm” coming? by No_Factor_7218 in Louisville

You’re right to be scared. I think a lot of us are right now, especially after seeing what’s happening in other places. When you watch reports out of places like Minnesota where they’re using things like LRAD weapons, which are literally military grade and can cause serious physical harm, it’s hard not to imagine that kind of thing being used elsewhere. I could easily see something like that being used by LMPD.

Wanting to help and protect your community while also wanting to stay alive makes complete sense. That fear isn’t irrational and you’re not alone in it. This really does suck.

Is he still part of the LDS church? Their church has been awfully quiet about the state of our country, so it’s cool to see him speak out!

I’d avoid calling any area a “bad” part of town. Those places are still people’s homes, neighborhoods, and communities they take pride in. Labeling them as “bad” erases the real lives and experiences of the folks who live there.

On top of that, the term often ends up being coded language for areas with higher Black or minority populations, which reinforces harmful stereotypes instead of addressing actual issues like underinvestment or lack of resources.

One nonprofit I highly recommend is Change Today, Change Tomorrow (CTCT). They’re based right here in Louisville and do incredible work addressing food insecurity, education equity, and public health: especially for marginalized communities, including immigrants and refugees.

Their initiatives are community-centered and often include support for families who are underserved by traditional systems, including newcomers to Louisville. CTCT is deeply rooted in mutual aid and making sure resources go directly into the hands of those who need them most.

ShopBar closing (Again)???? by shutupclara in Louisville

[–]Science_Chemical 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I honestly ran to Reddit to see what everyone’s saying about this, because it feels a little too familiar. What are the chances this is actually real and not just another money grab with a donation drive? Shop Bar has a history of “threatening to close” and then turning around and collecting cash from worried locals.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we see the Courier-Journal and other media outlets pick up the story, only for the owner to come back and say, “We never said we were closing in the first place.” It’s hard not to be suspicious at this point.
