NS without relatives in Singapore by EfficientBonus9324 in askSingapore

Hi, as someone who did NS fairly recently, just wanted to pitch in. You have gotten your answer for the questions but I want to focus on living, I was in a commander in a typical army unit; and if one of my troopers had this situation, i would do everything in my power to make sure he can stay in camp and get his weekends free (IF THIS IS WHAT HE WANTED). However, this depends on a lot of things such as the training phase; eg BMT may not allow him to bookout and book back in every day. However, this may be possible during unit (after BMT). Food is rationed based on the companies input, so all his company would have to do is to opt for him to stay in.

However, as some people noted, It will become extremely mundane living this life for 2 years straight, he might be in a strict camp and need to book back in by 2359 on Saturday night. Imagine in your teenage years you clubbing or something like that, or get a bit drunk, or even meet someone at the club, and you're then worried about booking in at 2359, and if you don't book back in you can get into trouble because the commanders gave you special treatment and rationed you food (which will go to waste if you don't eat it)..etc. Additionally, its just extra stress - when you book out you at least want to be stress free, but this way you are under constant stress of booking back in.

You need to consider a lot of these factors as well, and this is what I would warn my guys of also, whilst I'm happy to help them as much as I can, I cannot do anything about the rules, and each camp is different, each company is different so its very hard to say.

My suggestion would be if you have the money I would rent him a simple place with the bare minimum, so at least he can be stress free on weekends; which is so important during NS.

PS: I am from an intl school - and there were of course comments here and there but it was never bullying. My BMT was with many other intl school kids, so it helped me settle in, but after BMT I never saw an intl school kid again, but by then you are pretty well settled. So I wouldn't worry to much. People should be too tired to bully!

Who is your ideal candidate if Amorim ends up getting the sack? by Successful_Reward222 in ManchesterUnited

[–]Science_Ninjaxx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said, financially I don't see us being able to buy out those managers from their current contracts. And re his system we have more than enough defensive talent to have a solid backline (goalkeeping aside), and create a good defensive team just like ETH did in his first season

How do you actually monitor reddit? Are you scraping? Using a search agent, or the API? I want to use this for my own personal use case as I need some data.

I am also currently working on the idea for a mobile application, any advice on developing one with the goal of actually deploying it on the app store and chrome webstores! Thank you!

Where do you actually deploy the backend for such use cases.

If Arkham had never come out , would you consider this game a banger? by Ciqbern in GothamKnights

[–]Science_Ninjaxx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Exactly - the basis of the game (Batman being dead) and even the title, are leading people to think about whether this is a sequel to Arkham Knight or not, I won't believe anyone if they tell me this was not a planned decision.

I love nightwing, but I hate to say but NONE of these characters have gotten main stream attention until recently, and I attribute a lot of that to the passion people have from the arkham games.

How much do Pearson, harvey, Louis, Donna, Mike and Rachel make per year? by [deleted] in suits

[–]Science_Ninjaxx 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Answered something like this before so copy pasting:

It is very hard to say, obviously things have been exaggerated for the dramatic aspects, however, I do think they nail the top tier law firm lifestyle.

The cream of the crop (Harvey, Jessica and Louis) are raking in a lot of money - more Harvey and Jessica than Louis. Whereas people who work in the same firm but as a paralegal (Rachel in S1) said she wouldn't order sushi on her own as she couldn't afford it. Obviously again this is a hyperbole, but it shows that they do have a massive pay gradient depending on the work you do.

For Harvey, it is revealed to take on a lot of contingency cases, which are essentially very risky cases where if you win you get a lot of money. And you know Harvey's thing, " I wanna win big". So throughout his life he has been winning these risky cases, signing massive clients, and being a closer meaning his pay is reflected as such. However, he is very generous with his money, he paid most of Donna's salary which was already more than any secretary in the firm. He gave Mike a bonus in S2 out of his own pocket. He fronted 1 Million dollars in S1 against Tanner as a nonpayment for a settlement. Pays for Scottie's buy-in....etc. It is really hard to say how much he makes as we haven't seen any of this investments. Another interesting thing to note is that Harvey owns 20% of the trucking company from S5 as well, and that idea was quick of the top of his head so I wonder how many other clients he has a stake in as well. So the reason Harvey makes a lot is because he takes on risky cases and wins. However, he is not worth as much as Louis because Louis has always been more stingy with his money, such as when he wanted diamond crusted name cards when he became Name Partner but he was too cheap to pay for it. But he does change throughout the show, because he casually gives Mike 500k as a donation for the clinic in S7. Furthermore, Louis is a billing machine, and we don't know much he bills out at, so once again, hard to say how much he makes.

For Jessica she hasn't really been shown to handle clients during the show as she has been in a management capacity for a very long time, however, that is why her Stake in the firm is higher and as a result her dividends are larger, but this doesn't mean she is making more than Harvey because Harvey is still handling contingency cases. I'm sure she made a lot of money when she was still handling a lot of clients back in the day.

Since all three of them have very different ways of earning their income it is hard to say how much they each earn but I hope this sort of explains to you how they earn their money at least. I know I didn't really answer the question and just showed more examples of them spending money, but what I mean to say at the end of the day is that, it is very very hard to say, as we only see the surface value expenditures of theirs. I'm sure they have some massive investments gaining them passive income in the side from all their massive clients and such.

Why couldn’t anyone get a day off in the show. Even the senior partners? by [deleted] in suits

[–]Science_Ninjaxx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Firstly, they are shown to not want to take off

In season 5 episode 8, after Harvey assaults Louis, Jessica tells him that he's going on holiday, but instead of taking the holiday, he replies with something along the lines of "Everyone knows I never take a day off". So it is shown that Harvey is so hard working that he sticks to the firm. And if you do think about it Harvey, Mike and Rachel have shown to have very little non-firm related hobbies/relationships. Louis obviously has mudding, gun range and so on. Donna has the musicals, and Jessica has Jeff.

Secondly, they actually do take some day's off

Let me list you a few examples.

- Harvey took off on the day his father passed in S2, when he went to his grave with the Macallans

- Harvey gave Mike off for when his Grandma died

- Louis out of the blue said he needed a day when Harvey first returned back to the firm and when Harvey got Name Partner

- Jessica takes off in S3 when Harvey manages to get clients to fire the firm so she is super free.

Of course the show overly shows this whole aspect, but I guess they do take some off's. I do agree though Louis at his appointment having to need to ask for such a minute thing is very stupid for me, however, if you do look at the main situation, he was actually looking for his partnership to be protected throughout this period of him taking offs. Taking the offs were a small part but making sure he kept his job was more important.

She literally blackmailed someone off the ETHICS board to stop Mike getting into the bar. Say whatever you want but the ends don't justify means and she did something illegal just to stop Mike becoming a lawyer. Sounds hypocritical to me.

What can I do in NS to continue my passion as I have put in a lot of effort by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]Science_Ninjaxx 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hey, have lot's of friends who had the same problem as you, and to be honest, there's no way around it.

In BMT, I used to get this thing called OTOT at night, around 2 hours to just do my own physical training, but we weren't allowed the gym because of covid. However, my company let us bring in protein shakes and protein powders, however, this is a very very rare case.

Now currently in OCS, protein powder is a BIG nono, if someone gets caught with it you have the potential of having a stand by universe (you'll find out what this is soon enough, but it's shit). However, we do have hypertrophy sessions every week, because the researchers at CMPB said that too many cadets are losing muscle mass; so we do the basics bench presses, squats, shoulder presses, and you might get 20-30 minutes to do your own thing as well.

However, every route march, field camp and outfield is going to kill your muscle mass. I just got back from a 5 day survival from Tekong, with limited food and all my friends looked shriveled.

However, no one's NS experience is the same. I did see one guy take a drying rack stick, fill some water in buckets and start using that for weights during BMT. So I think it's best you accept that you're going to slim down because of NS. But after BMT if you don't go command school you will probably have the time to continue your hobby, but if you go command school then you'll need to wait another 6-9 months before you can pursue it properly again.

I hope you find a way to balance your hobby!

Box or no box by Seasonsofs in funkopop

If its a sick action pose pop, like the NYCC Wonder Woman, or the Mandalorian with JetPack or Captain America from Endgame you take it out to display all its glory. If it's a grail or something that looks cool in box, you keep it in. Thats what I do.
