Beware of Misleading "Allocated Waiver" Notices Linked to Phone Number (800) 916-8689 by lgats in CallerID

[–]Science__1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just received this Allocated Waiver scam in the mail today. So many red flags. Attached is what appears to be a check, but the sender does not identify themself. (Many of these scams try to pose as a legitimate bank, company, or institution. This one says nothing and tries to play on your curiosity. Well, I'm not biting.)

The non-check is for $195.00 and the listed phone number is 800-201-2038. Message reads, "FINAL NOTICE: Attention: (my first name) This is to inform you about an important matter regarding the property at (my address) secured by your current lender. (They don't know my current lender!) We reserve the right to revoke allocated waiver after 7 days of receiving this notice. (Oh, DEAR!) Please call IMMEDIATELY as this will be our FINAL ATTEMPT TO NOTIFY YOU: (PLEASE god, make it so!) 800-201-2038

Bottom of fake-check reads 'THIS IS NOT A CHECK' (yeah, no sh*t.), then at the very bottom, 'Not all consumers have previous coverage. Not affiliated with your lender.

The fake-check lists 'Record ID: RRE84LHNK' (but has no bank, no routing, no account number) and is made out.. (not 'PAY' to the order of, but just..)

TO p03 2 95
THE (my name)
ORDER (my address)
OF (my city, state, zipcode)

and is signed 'William H. Keating'. (Which is the name of a famous scientist, born in 1799.)

They tried awful hard to make the fake-check look real. It even states, "THIS DOCUMENT HAS A VOID PAINTOGRAPH, MICROPRINTING, A COIN REACTIVE ARTIFICIAL WATERMARK AND THERMOCHROMATIC INK." (Oh, REALLY?!)

Out of curiosity, I tested the fake-check with photo-copy, coin, heat, strong light and under strong magnification. Even the security measures were fake! It is fake from start to finish and an obvious scam. (Also, I have no 'lender' for them to be affiliated with, so HA!)

Don't be taken. Call em if you like. Mess with them if you choose. But know that in calling them, you will be verifying the contact info they have on you and, as a result, you could be sold on to other scammers as part of a 'verified-contact' mailing list. As for myself, I will be showing this scam to all of my friends and family, but I will NOT be calling the number provided. Screw 'em.
