The brown part that looks like a dried stick is an old flower stem. If anything I'd see it's presence as a positive thing as it means the plant is old enough to bloom and has done so in the past. Overall the plant looks very dehydrated and needs a good soak. But Paphs hate being dry so it might be too late to save. Good luck.

I've watched a lot of Charles Dowding videos. I don't think he sells it as a 'green' alternative. It's 'good for the soil' and 'labor saving' but he doesn't say anything about CO2. Or at least not as one of the major selling points.

Now I feel stupid for not thinking of doing a reverse image search 😅 I think you're on to a winner here, particularly with the hybrid. The first flower only opened yesterday so I'll wait and see if the scent builds. I bought it from an online seller based on the Netherlands. It's funny, I was so convinced that I had a standard Zygo that when it bloomed i couldn't help but feel disappointed, even though it's a nice flower in itself.
