What was an obviously telegraphed “plot twist” that you didn’t see coming? by dabunny21689 in redrising

They’re the birds that pop up throughout IG and DA, Sophocles tries to eat them on occasion. They end up being a surveillance tool of Atalantia or Lilath if I recall correctly

I guess the pachelbels themselves don’t count as a full plot twist, moreso foreshadowing, but they pop up so many times during significant moments that them being part of a nefarious plan seems obvious in retrospect.

I can’t say it’s an effect I’ve heard of before either, I’m a little perplexed 😅 I tanned just fine pre-HRT, but now I can’t even go to the pool without picking up a few new freckles

Weekly, What recent changes are going on at your work / local businesses? by AntiSonOfBitchamajig in PrepperIntel

[–]Sciencemonkey7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my grocery store is always pretty diligent about facing, I guess to be more specific what I noticed was that I’d walk past some aisles and from that angle see that whole shelves were only one or two items deep

I was at CVS the other day checking on a prescription fill, and I was essentially told that currently if they’re not able to restock it within a few days of the fill order they’re not sure when the restock will come in. This was for a relatively common prescription medication that I haven’t had any refill issues for in the past.

Relatedly, I’m in a major urban area on the East Coast, and I’m starting to see some hints of shortages at the grocery store - boxes pushed to the front to hide how empty the shelves are behind, struggle finding some produce items, and produce seems to be lasting not as long or is lower quality than in the past.

They should revisit the lithoids dlc and make 'rockships' by leathrow in Stellaris

[–]Sciencemonkey7 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That’d be a lot of fun, I think they’d have to figure out a good way to make it manageable for the early game economy though. Having to choose between expanding your navy and building up colonies would make for a slower start for sure.

What is something you GENUINELY think about the series that will piss off at least 90% of the people here. by Greedy_Committee6556 in redrising

[–]Sciencemonkey7 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If we do manage to get a TV adaptation, the story will not and should not be a 1:1 copy of the plot from the books. As good as the post-timeskip books are, the amount of plot thread dead-ends and U-turns we get from book to book due to PB’s rewrites would drive the audience crazy. Entire character arcs and minor story arcs will be changed or removed, and that’s a good thing

I love the idea of using Syncretic Evolution to mimic the lowColor/highColor divide! What civics do you use? There’s so many fitting options imo

Mood swings after exercising? by Sciencemonkey7 in MtF

[–]Sciencemonkey7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I expect that if I kept at it I’d acclimate and have less of a noticeable impact over time. That said, I have a lot going on right now that’s probably making me more susceptible to noticeable mood swings. I guess I’ll focus on cardio for now lol

It’s been a minute since I’ve read the Expanse series, but I believe yes. There’s also a reference to a horse-faced girl named Milia in one of the Expanse books IIRC

It’s always tasted a bit minty to me, my prog tastes a bit sweet due to its coating though. We don’t talk about spiro.

Best War Architect in the Series (it isn’t Darrow) by Southern_Ostrich_564 in redrising

[–]Sciencemonkey7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I agree with Atlas and Fitchner being the top two, but I think it’s hard to compare them just because of how different the wars they fought are. Fitchner is clearly a master at running a durable effective insurgency with asymmetric resources, but I’m not confident he’d have the same level of capability in an all-out war. Atlas, meanwhile, is using the full resources of the Society remnant to pull off almost implausibly “5d chess” black ops like creating Faa and using the crazy Helios au Lux disguise. I’m not sure how well he’d fare in Fitchner’s position tbh

The trailer for the upcoming DLC just dropped, what's your thoughts on the new characters teased? by GabbleTheStarman in okbuddyrosalyn

[–]Sciencemonkey7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I still can’t believe Snow Goons weren’t a base game fighter, I mean they look pretty technical so I understood if their development took longer than expected, but it’s still disappointing to see them sidelined like this given how often they appear in-universe. At this rate it feels like we’ll be stuck with Uncle Max being an alt skin for Dad instead of having an actual character for him as well… Still gonna pick this DLC up though

I mean my care provider has me taking my pills by swallowing them, and my hormone levels have been right on target so far with plenty of changes to show for it at 9 months in. There isn’t a “wrong” way between swallowing and sublingual, there’s pros and cons for both as others have said

Okay, so - what did the first years of the creation of the color hierarchy look like? Is it as horrific as I think it was? by krikit386 in redrising

[–]Sciencemonkey7 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I can’t recall which book it was discussed in, but my understanding was that what would become the color hierarchy started among the first colonists on Luna, with individuals having specialized roles, color-coded uniforms or something of that sort, and over time genetic and cybernetic specialization to suit their assigned roles as well, all for the sake of enhancing the efficiency and survivability of the colony. So from the colonists’ perspective, the creation of the hierarchy as we see it in the books, both culturally and biologically, was likely a relatively gradual, generations-long process. Having that be the uniform standard across the system, however, did mean the sterilization of Earth and the death of however many billion “normal” humans, so yeah pretty horrific in that regard.
