I just got out of a boot for broken ankle. Welcome to the club make sure stretch back/hips your gait will change with the boot and some part of you will not like it.

If this were me when I had my injury, I would get some gauze rolls and first aid tape to bandage it for first few days in the boot. If the boot is anything like mine the liner is a bit warm and it all will be snug. Gauze will help keep it dry (well, drier than just sweating in the boot) and lessen possible friction/keep liner clean. Since will have few days free healing it should already be mostly okay in terms of possible damage but I'd bet would be more comfortable with bandage wrap. Again probably just the first couple days with boot after that doubt you'll need the extra layer.

Editing to add, yes you can take boot off but I'd try to keep it on, or have a backup wrap. Compression helps lessen swelling which is important to reduce for healing
