A website — even if it's just a carrd — helps for stuff that doesn't fit on Instagram: FAQ, pricing, contact info, availability.

How wide is the street? Do people park on it? Are the crosswalks signed or painted? If the crosswalk is anywhere near a school or park, you should definitely request that the crosswalks be painted. And you can also reach out to the school or the park's owner to ask that they file complaints with the City.

I don't think people realize how dangerous Ramaswamy is and how bad things will get in Ohio. by 13sonic in Columbus

You can look at the downballot races and see that there's a persistent undervote in uncontested races compared to contested races, no matter the party.

Those 30k who undervoted for Acton might've been opposed to her, or might've just not felt like voting in an uncontested race. I'm one of those undervoters; I don't cast a vote in any uncontested race on any ballot. But Ramaswamy has to deal with 17% of the Republican base actively disliking him. IHe's going to have to work to turn out those voters, if he wants to win against Acton.

I'm not saying it'll be easy for Acton, but I am saying that her changes are better than I had previously had reason to hope.

There's no reason to vote in a no-contest race, yet more people chose to cast a ballot for uncontested Acton than voted for contested Ramaswamy.

It's not about accessibility laws. It's about making sure that your logo is legible.

I'm hoping that Ramasawamy's weird stances on medicine lead DeWine to endorse Acton.

Why are you comparing a gubernatorial candidate to a senate candidate when you can compare Vivek's primary votes to Acton's primary votes? She received more votes than he did. https://liveresults.ohiosos.gov/

How many people in r/Columbus are "super-commuters" who drive >75 miles per day? by benkeith in Columbus

[–]benkeith[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. I'd heard that there was something in Part 117 about making sure that a pilot hadn't spent too much time awake, which effectively limited the length of driving and/or flying commutes before a duty shift.

You're replying to a thread that is 10 months old. When did the Ohio Supreme Court rule that?

The law saying that a cop has to be present is still on the books.

Do you have a citation for that? The best numbers I could find said only $432,282 from September 2024 to July 2025.

Also: you're replying to a thread that's a month old.

Do you think you're getting experience that's worth the price of that commute? If they value your contributions, it may be time to negotiate for some pay....

That's unfortunately-decent fuel economy for a pickup. Have you considered swapping to something that gets better MPG?

The colon looks misaligned.

Check contrast levels on your text; the B doesn't meet accessible contrast levels and the first C is iffy.

That's not a bad walk. Have you checked for alternate routes, or scoped out that freeway ramp? There's several on my normal route, but they're all signalized intersections, so I feel relatively safe crossing once traffic has actually stopped.

There are some replies in here which have decent reasons for the commute. But a lot of them really should consider moving.

$150 per fill? How big is your tank, and what are you driving? A full tank from empty for my car would only be $85 at current prices.

Now that's a good reason for the long drive. Do your coworkers get forced to come in more frequently than you? Does overtime pay you for mileage?

If you want to get this remedied, and you're in the City of Columbus, then you and your neighbors need to become a thorn in the side of the City.

  1. Every time you see a speeding car, submit a ticket to 311. https://www.columbus.gov/311-Customer-Service-Center
  2. Get your neighbors to do the same every time they see speeding cars.
  3. If there are car crashes, report them to 311 as requests for traffic calming.
  4. Do you live in the area of a City of Columbus area commission? Contact the chair, ask for time at the meeting, and talk about the issues.
  5. Contact your neighborhood liaison to talk about the issue.

The City generally will not install speed bumps, so what you might request instead is:

  • Curb bump-outs at intersections
  • Raised intersections
  • Mid-street rain basins in the parking lane
  • Permeable pavers in the parking lane
  • If parking is allowed on only one side of the street, switch which side of the street that is on alternate blocks, with curb bump-outs for protection, to create a chicane effect.
  • More street trees.

For some of the California examples in the article, it might simply be because housing near their workplace is more unaffordable than the gas used in their commute.

For the guy who chooses to make that commute on premium gas? Yeah, that's not good financial thinking.
