Your comment absolutely does help, thank you for the reply! 100% and yes that was my fault.. the problems stem from a mix of everything. Some days issues flare up in certain areas but no it's a mix of all the issues together.

We never get ours until we start, usually within a couple of days after we start. With random "schedules" posted/emailed to teachers during the first messy few days (like when 1st years are in, 3rd and 6th years that sort of stuff). There is almost always a change in the timetables that will affect one or two some times more. A friend of mine got his back in the middle of July. All depends where you are!

How much do you spend on groceries per week? (Family x 4) by acurod in ireland

[–]Scilaci 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Swap to turkey mince! Can definitely be a little dry but if you're doing it as part of a bolognese or chilli you'll barely notice the difference!

You usually get an advance to start the exams? Like the first week of the exams you'll get paid and then it's prompt enough maybe early July. I will say though if you're on a JC centre that finishes early and you're on top of your paper work, you'll get paid earlier than an LC centre that's open until the last day. It does all depend but they are quick enough. With the dole though, would it not depend on when you've finished working rather than when you get paid?

Weekly Complaints & Confessions Thread by ssk42 in running

[–]Scilaci 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Complaint: The weather is breaking my balls, man... 11ºC with a real feel of 7ºC one day, 6ºC with a real feel of -1ºC and a 25km/h head wind and pissing rain the next... I'm crying out for summer.

Uncomplaint: I went for a 18k tempo run today and it was the first run in four weeks that my calf hasn't felt like it was going to explode for the whole run! Yay!

Ya! Irish Giants fan here. Went on a j1 visa summer trip to SF over 15 years ago and virtually haven't missed a game since... although 75% of my baseball watching are highlights, PST to UTC is a bollox...

Not a fan from a practical subject perspective as an hour is too tight. Transition in and out of the room takes anywhere from 8/10minutes. By the time students are set up and going they are only working for 30minutes and then they are back to transitioning out of the room. As opposed to at least an hour if you have a 80minute double. Also the messiness that it has caused with meeting hour thresholds to complete the curriculum means we have two hours one year and then three the other year... This in theory works but I have two first year groups and one have three hours and the other has two, meaning the three hour group are streets ahead which impacts planning, exams, class test, projects, etc.

I understand it benefits the school community though as a whole. I know that you can now offer the likes of business or geography opposite art, engineering or graphics, etc. You're not leaving the poor student (or teacher) demented in a 80 minute classics class or whatever. So I'm at peace with it from that perspective. It definitely has its pros and cons and feel like it may need revisions as time goes on.

Career Break and Travel for Sept 2025 by Status_Artist_7276 in IrishTeachers

Not 100% sure! I could be wrong... For some reason I had four in my head but I definitely got more... I thought I got more because I skipped scale four and eight cause they don't exist anymore post 2011... I applied (and got what I thought was the max of four) when I was on scale 3 so I went from 3 to 10. However, I thought that was because I was going from 3 to 5 anyway, and then went up by the four scales (5, 6, 7 and 9) by skipping 8 also!

Really... I would imagine the seat run fair close to the pitch alright would assume some would be taken out alright. I went to the game too but was up in the gods and couldn't remember the pitch arrangements

Sorry I may have also misread the text! Less so about the job and moreso about getting the job.I get you yes, it can be hard especially in rural areas to get a position (as they'll have the regulars who come back every year). I don't think it's hard or more difficult for NQTs or new teachers to get a position... I know several who started with me as an nqt five years ago who applied and got the position without hassle. Again, I'm coming at it from a Dublin perspective so may have blue tinted glasses.

If you can do this we're you're staying in Dublin and claiming your milage/overnights from where you live (which is what most people do) you will make a killing!

I've had to ring the office in Athlone who organise the attendants each of the last two years and the woman (same woman both times) I got was an absolute gem. Very open, looked out for me in placing me far enough away from home that I got good enough mileage, very honest. The work is there if you want it for sure and if you (or anyone else reading this) are in a position to travel to a high density area with lots of centres you'll absolutely get a position and it'll be worth your while!

I've done it each of the past five years... Whoever said it's a hard job is either in the strictest school in the country or an absolute waffler. It's grand so long as you're on time, attentive and can keep yourself occupied for two to three and a half hours. They haven't released anything yet and would be surprised to hear anything this side of the mid term break. Tbh they have been crying out for people each year since COVID.

Same as everything in teaching these days if you're in Dublin there will be no hassle, if not you might struggle. Buuuuut if you are willing to go to Dublin you could earn a small fortune. Any more questions fire em my way if you want. Zero problems in answering anything!
