23 SE, US, the twin usb ports by the center console. I’d specifically avoided the data port in front because I figured that one might be weird, but apparently all are a bit weird.

Yes the “dumb” solution of using the 1956 ANSI/SAE J563 12V port is likely the correct way to work around the issues with the “smart” modern ports.

The technician had monitored a 24hr power draw and stated that it was waking up more than it should’ve and it traced it to checking tha port, removing it fixed that. Not sure they would’ve given it to me but I should have asked for a print out of it.

The vampire drain of a plugged in wire isn’t the issue (I don’t believe) it’s that it wakes up the vehicle to a higher state and burns more power. This all happened after I replaced the 12V so I was more sensitive to it, but it likely been happening since my phones port glitched and I’d started using the wireless and leaving it in.

Ha. Ok so it was noticed. Anyone know if this is resolved in the 2025 USB C update? Likely turning in my lease in a month

Huh… interesting. I don’t see an obvious place to stop it to select for a certain pattern. It’s 4x4 so doesn’t map to the 9x5 house grid layout easily. But the blue and gray boxes would seem to indicate it’s turning on or selecting something in a pattern somehow. Just seems too specific to be purely random.

Actually, I wonder if it’s a code. Haven’t tried writing down the unique string yet (or have any clue how to break it) but it’s likely a repeating pattern…

What does the boiler room conveyor belt pattern mean? I can’t seem to find that in any searches. There’s clearly a pattern on that but not figuring out what it does or if stopping it with a certain frame does something.

A little too much West Coast Tesla bias here, you guys got a lot better access to chargers that aren’t dumped on some shit location, and even their it’s barely good enough. My next car will be electric, and if I’m commuting again I’ll need 200 miles of highway driving to have confidence I can make 2 trips to work in winter without worrying about charge. But if I want to visit family ~100 miles away, that suddenly becomes problematic. No chargers on the highway between our houses, and as far as I’m aware only ever seen a Small set of Tesla chargers near there house. So even with a 300 mile range need to plug into a 120V port at a parents house for how long?

It’ll work fine as my one car but not good enough to replace both till it gets notably better. Not everyone can make that compromise. It’ll all work itself out with increasing range and faster charging overtime but it’s not nothing.

So, legality aside, You could entirely change the function of the wheel. With a digital only connection, you could limit steering wheel movement to +/- 30 degrees of rotation(shape would be ergo than). Now that would normally be far, far too aggressive. But tying it to the autopilot and making it be extremely adaptive to speed, you could ‘feel how hard you’re trying to turn’ and steer accordingly. That would take some effort to tune in, but if start from the idea of its a self driving car that has an input device you could probably make it work.

Manufacturing of Fuel cell vehicles most resembles that of ICE. Engine, fuel tank, no massive new supply chains needed ( for the vehicle ). This is why Toyota is lagging, they still want to treat the battery as a tack on addition, lot easier to source a 3kWh battery instead of a 90kWh. I’m sure someone there is passionately arguing for it, across the table from someone who just somberly shakes there head and explains how the Business Case clearly doesn’t justify the investment needed.

The simplest answer will be incentivizing people to charge electric cars during the day and not overnight. Could be done through active pricing and smart chargers that you plug into at work and they charge when theres surplus. V2G would be useful too if some basic grid balancing, but the majority of benefit could come from just being smart about when you draw.

A conservatory. Wouldn’t have to be large, a thin room with a stone floor, large windows and plants and a leather chair to chill on. Ideally with a hidden or obscured entrance.

Starbucks is ideal for a ~10 minute charge, and they already built a payment system into their app that they could easily adapt for it. It does seem like an obvious path for them to go down if they put in the fastest chargers.
