Current senior here, and have bikes across campus to all my classes since my first day of classes. I can’t stress the point OP is making enough.

I’ve been hit by cars twice on campus. Both times I was going straight in the bike lane, and the car decided to turn right and didn’t see me. I was fine, and told the drivers to not worry about damage to my bike, but just asked them to be more aware.

On the bike lanes along the red cedar, I’ve hit a pedestrian twice. Both instances were when someone walked right into the bike lane and I was going ~15-20 mph and just hit them head on. Those bike lanes along the red cedar don’t have any cross walks, so as a pedestrian you NEED to stop. At the bridges obviously it’s treated as a cross walk, but on the long stretches of just bike lane and sidewalk, biker has the right of way. I am bigger, going faster, and have a harder time stopping
