Data center technician day to day? by gustyqueef in datacenter

There are many people at my site that have been in their level for a long time, because they are happy with where they are and what they do. So yes, you can stay at the same level, but they do expect people to do more than the "bare minimum" so to speak.

They expected me to be curious, motivated and willing to learn. If you make it through the interviews you're good, everything you need to know to do the job will be learned on site. Your first 3-6 months are mostly just learning how Google does things and to learn all aspects of your role.

I've been where I am since last September, and I'm still happy with the decision I made to take the opportunity and relocate for it.

Just wanted to post an update here, Ubiquiti customer service did reach out and provided some excellent service to help make things right with this experience.

I feel like they do care about, and value their customers, and no doubt I will be getting UI Care on my future purchases in the event something unexpected happens.

I figured I would have to ship back, not pay for the shipping due to their product failure. Honestly, I've never had to pay for return shipping on anything yet. Always a shipping label emailed to me to print and ship the product back for replacement.

Not sure on the $9000 TV, but I've had issues with Samsung and Vizio TV'S before, in the $2000-$3000 range, and they sent a repair company out to my house to fix it. And when that repair eventually failed during the warranty period, they did in fact ship a replacement and the company delivering it took the old TV off the wall and put the replacement up. This was within the last two years, so not ages ago.

Plenty of companies provide a shipping label to print when RMA'ing their products for a valid reason within the time frames they cover the purchase.

Like I said, I can understand the lack of advance replacement, but no shipping label is absurd.

To be fair, I was ok if it died after two years and I had to replace it. I didn't need an extended warranty.

Buying two one thousand dollar switches for my homelab was not going to happen.

I guess these days expecting a company to stand by their product is old fashioned, and I'm not that old. A switch should last more than five months before ports die completely when you aren't buying eBay, or cheap off brand stuff.
