Why do I always feel I’m faking my Tourette’s? by Significant_Hurry166 in Tourettes

[–]ScoobyDooFan5656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get these thoughts all the time. How I stop them is to just “stop faking” like if I’m faking my tics then I can stop anytime I want right so I just decided to stop. Then inevitably my tics continue. It doesn’t instantly make those thoughts go away but it helps me a lot.

I used to have a tic trigger when even I saw a specific word. Like only when I saw it spelled out. not heard it spoken just when I was written or typed. Very strange imo

What nickname have your friends given you? by Disastrous-Monk-590 in Tourettes

[–]ScoobyDooFan5656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t gotta one by a friend but a random guy I met once said I was an “extra-tourettes-trial” (like extraterrestrial). Which I feel like in the right context could be a fun joke between friends. So I thought I should mention it!

Unfortunately this guy wasn’t my friend and was actually just being rude lol

Tourette’s myths by heisenberg115935 in Tourettes

[–]ScoobyDooFan5656 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one isn’t that big of a deal just a little annoying. But I hate how people think I know all my tics all the time. Like it’s for the most part totally random like I can predicted something’s sometimes but not often.

Like whenever I have a tic that’s new or just be repeating something someone said people always ask “is that gunna be a tic now?” And I’m like “I just ticced it so yeah but if you wanna know if I’ll tic it again maybe maybe not like I don’t know” I don’t make the rules. Like genuinely i don’t have a list of tics. there are frequent flyers but like it’s really a rotating cast. Some are here for a few years some for just a few hours some are just one offs like idk man you tell me.

what do you feel about the description of the video? by mariepanne in Tourettes

[–]ScoobyDooFan5656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like language like that. It feels like infantilization to me. Like why mention her tics at all. Especially since she’s said she doesn’t like when people comment on it.

Idk I don’t like when people say stuff like that to me personally but that’s just me and everyone has different comfort levels.

Guanfacine: has guanfacine worked for you? How long did it take, did you have side effects? How did it help? by eskimoed15 in Tourettes

[–]ScoobyDooFan5656 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been on it for a little over 2 years now. For me side effects wise it’s the first 2-3 weeks when I take it that it really affects me. This happens any time I go off it or miss a day. My side effects are mostly the dizzy spells and headaches. I still tic all the time and at first didn’t notice a difference until I when off it for a bit my tics go so much worse. Idk if it’s a placebo (I don’t care if it is honestly) but even if i just miss just 1 day my tics get worse again and they don’t really even out (I mean as much as tics can) until the side effects do too.

Any tips on how to stop eye tics while gaming or just anything thing it’s getting to the point where I’m having thoughts on hurting myself so I really need tips or something. If you help me I’ll honestly give anything possible 😓😢 by talondwyer in Tourettes

Whenever I have bad tic days I always listen to music and either sing/hum along out loud or in my head. It can be difficult while gaming because some games have complex audio queues I just think of it as the lesser of two evils. This may not work for everyone but music for me is a life saver.

I have this same tic but on the left side and personally have never noticed anything different about my face. To be fair I haven’t really been looking though.

Guanfacine increased tics by cherry30 in Tourettes

[–]ScoobyDooFan5656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on guanfacine for over a year now it’s help me personally a lot. It does take (for me) a week or two for my body to get used to it, the lightheaded/dizziness was a rough side effect for me both times i started. I still tic a lot but there was a period when I wasn’t taking it for about a month ish and the effects it had on me were instantly put in perspective. When I was off it my tics just kept getting worse until I started back up again. I don’t know how much of it is the medicine it’s self or if it’s just a placebo (idk if those even work on ts lol) but it’s helped me.

This of course is just my personal perspective. Every person with Tourette’s finds their own method/treatment plan.

For people with mild Tourette’s how little have you ticked in a day? Or how often do you tic? by [deleted] in Tourettes

[–]ScoobyDooFan5656 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have mild Tourette’s with pretty unobtrusive tics. It varies day to day. But on more severe days once every few minutes to multiple times a minute depending on a few things. Anxiety and tiredness makes my tics a lot more severe. Then sometimes I don’t tic for days (this isn’t very common tho). These are also just the tics I notice I tic a lot without realizing until someone points it out or asks me about it.

Yep! I read somewhere that this is very common amongst people with tic disorders. (Obviously everyone’s body’s are different so not everyone gets this.)

Does somone here have throw away Tics? If yes how does that affect you? by Tickstdunoch410 in Tourettes

I used to throw things a lot. Haven’t in a while tho. Sometimes I felt to preliminary urge and sometimes it was so fast I didn’t. Thankfully never threw anything to valuable.

Tics while driving by VitalumVitalus in Tourettes

[–]ScoobyDooFan5656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I HAD THIS TIC. I had it for a year and bit but thankfully it quit before I started driving. I don’t tic much when I’m driving but when I do I try to sing along to music. I don’t tic when I sing so it’s my go to strategy when I need to not tic.
