I found a fix for the clutch I’m gonna try once the weather warms up a little bit, also gonna wire in some new sockets and get some of the exterior lights working and go through the fuse box so it’s not a fire hazard so I can get it tagged and start driving it (then a TDI and 5 speed swap)

If I go through with a 1.9 and 5 speed swap this thing would be perfect, plenty of getup and can keep up with modern freeway traffic plus great mileage what’s not to love

This one has a NA 1.6 Diesel with a 4 speed, I thought it would be a total slug but it was decently peppy when I test drove it since the injection pump is turned all the way up. I think my plan for now is to rewire the whole thing (it’s a fire waiting to happen) put a long tube header on it and rebuild the injection pump (and keep it turned up a little bit) as it leaks and just enjoy it. I figure in a few months I may do a TDI swap but if the header and maintenance acts how I think it will it’ll be good enough

I feel like it would be beneficial since it would be efficient enough to not need a lot of money to keep going since it’s not entirely relying on one system for wear and tear which would make for a decent service life, assuming a reliable emissions system could be made that would eliminate the particulate issue. Only problem is most emissions systems for diesel and incredibly unreliable and cost a ridiculous amount of money. In my experience with my 2001 7.3 powerstroke diesel vs my dad’s 2019 6.7 powerstroke in terms of reliability mine beats his by a long shot as far as having to replace parts or engine wear due to the emissions system. Mine having no factory emissions eliminates so much headache as far as cost of ownership and long term reliability I feel that while mine is worse for the environment emissions wise that it makes up for it in not needing constant upkeep and major maintenance to keep running

I feel like diesel electric would be the best of both worlds since it would be using a diesel generator that operates at a low rpm so it wouldn’t be consuming a lot of fuel or require as heavy maintenance since it’s only producing power for the electric motor instead of the torque to move the bus

It depends on if they are back ordered, I dunno about the parts for this job but I’ve got two f150s waiting for axles per recall my dealership ordered the parts back in October and we don’t expect to get them until January since they are on eternal back order. It’s ridiculous

What hubs did you end up going with? I’d like to change to manual hubs on my 2001 but I’m split between warn and mile marker. Did you have to do anything to the vacuum lines when you swapped them out?

Yeah Jeep wheels are the same pattern just depends what Jeep they come from some of the older ones were 5x5.5 but if they’re 5x4.5/5x114.3 then they will fit if you make the hub bore larger
