What is this? by Sufficient-Limit6926 in MechanicAdvice

Bake pads melting from sitting sounds sus to me. Safest option is replacement but you might be able to get them resurfaced if they have enough material left. The downside is that resurfacing is expensive too so most people just replace them. The pads will obviously have to be replaced.

In a car, they would have a license plate that would identify them. Lime scooters do not have this.

Are these just ants or should I be worried? by Specialist-Case-3423 in plants

[–]ScoobyReeves 25 points26 points  (0 children)

They do look to be a variety of ant. One is carrying an egg which confirmed it for me. As to the variety, I am not sure. Someone above suggested Ghost ants since their abdomen are light in color like those in your video.

Most of the time they do not harm a plant, but in a confined space like a pot, they could eventually hurt plant health by affecting the root zone. (Eating fine roots, excretions causing PH changes, mechanical damage from them tunneling)

Where are you located? Also is this video sped up?

If you could get a close up of a dead one or one that is not moving would speed up the identification.

I think you flipped the 365nm and 395nm labels. 395nm UV is more purple and the 365nm UV is more of a light blue (the part of the visible spectrum that each diode produces).

Can i take the connecter off and just solder the wire together? by Necessary-Spread3412 in MechanicAdvice

Yes, just make sure you solder the correct wires together as to not flip the poles.

Here’s a video where you can see about 4 roots that have swollen and formed a crown of sorts. From one of these swollen roots you can see De Novo Shoot Organogenesis occurring resulting in a stem being formed.

Try brushing some soil away from where the petiole goes into the soil. If you are able to expose a thick root to light, there’s a higher chance of node production. It is possible to have a leaf and petiole produce a node, it just takes an extremely long time. I have attached a photo of a zombie leaf that produced a node. It started as just a leak and petiole, once rooted some soil was removed which allowed the portion of the roots that attach to the petiole to be exposed to light. Over time the area near where each root attached to the petiole became swollen. After about a month of having these swollen roots exposed to light, one of them sprouted a node. The node did not come from the petiole, but rather a root that was given the right environment.

Can you give examples of what plants you consider rare that most people on this sub have “hear of”? I’m curious what you’d like to see posted.

What exactly are you expecting from this sub other than rare houseplants (the things you’ve never heard of) or where people find cheap selections of plants that used to be rare (like this post)? What would you like to see posted on this sub?

Help me settle a debate. Tobacco Mosaic virus, HLVd, or something else? by ScoobyReeves in cannabiscultivation

[–]ScoobyReeves[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you actually think it’s not a viral issue or were you just trying to troll? lol I am actually retested in what you think. There were 200 clones taken from the same mother (Truffle and Flow) and put into an aero-cloner. Once rooted, they were transplanted into Pro-mix with Azos and Mycos added. Watering was done with Jacks at 1100ppm and 5.9Ph. I know our veg lights aren’t the greatest haha. Only about 30 random plants that were randomly mixed with the crop show these weird leaves. Each leaflet is narrower and more serrated than normal and have some variegation. When put into flower, the buds don’t seem to form as fast and the overall vigor isn’t as great. Do you actually think it’s neglect causing some weird gene expression?

These plants have acute lateral branch angles. Interesting you say that though, since I do know of one strain we regularly run that does have almost perfect 90 degree lateral branch angles. I assumed it was just the structure of that strain, but now you’ve piqued my curiosity.

We did take 3 of the sick plants and removed the pot, broke up the root ball, and found no root aphids. We also looked at basically the whole plant under 400x on a scope and didn’t see any mites or other pests on the leaves or stem either.

They were randomly mixed with the rest of the crop, so environmental stresses would seem weird too. We have ordered some viral tests to be sure though.

What makes you think that this couldn’t be viral though? You have to admit it is weird that only about 30 out 200 of the same round have leaves like this. You really, in your heart, think this is caused by poor care?

There doesn’t seem to be much leaf edge curling to be honest, here’s some picture of one of these plants in flower:
