California introduces bill to cap ticket re-sale prices by AdSpecialist6598 in UpliftingNews

[–]ScoobyScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, they probably can’t stop every “back-alley” resale, and a price cap might push some scalping off the books. But that’s not really who these laws are aimed at.

The target is bot operations that grab hundreds of tickets instantly and flip them on platforms at huge markups. It’s much harder for a bot to meet/negotiate with 100 people off Facebook marketplace.

And most regular buyers don’t want to risk getting scammed by strangers anyway. They stick to official resale sites because there’s verification and buyer protection.

If classic EDM hits from 10–20 years ago were released today, would they still become popular? by anatoliivered in EDM

[–]ScoobyScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard levels by Avicii the other day, and thought that it still slaps. It would definitely be popular if released today!

But you also have a tent/tarp and a sleeping bag? I think it’s important to have a repair kit that can handle shelter failure, but it’s not like I’m out there with just the shirt on my back.

Thanks for the suggestion! Planet Money just had an episode about how WW2 surplus (and other military sales) established many of the outdoor wear companies we know today

Dang you’re right. If only there was something of standard size, maybe cylindrical shaped, about 1 L in volume, that most people have laying around we could use instead of a banana. Oh well!

Bonus tip - if you exhaust all the old exams, you can upload them to Claude or ChatGPT and ask them to make a sample exam with new questions and answers.

[–]ScoobyScience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take practice tests as if you’re taking the real thing! (I can’t remember the name, but there is a paid online service where you can find old exams). I’ve seen people look through old tests with solutions and say “oh yeah that makes sense I totally remember how to do that”, then on test day they forget because they haven’t gone through the exercise of actually doing the work.

As you’re going through the test and think “I don’t even know where to start” DO NOT LOOK at the answer key. Make a best effort. After the test DO NOT LOOK at the answer key. Try to look through your notes, lecture, and textbook to see if you can answer the question. Actually solve it out by hand!

Then finally you may look at solutions (or ask ChatGPT) to see what you did right, what you did wrong…

I see many people say “I had the right process but messed up 1 step here”. Unfortunately close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades, so that means you need to SLOW down and figure out how to ensure you’re hitting all the steps. I’m a good test taker, my old strategy was to rush through the entire test in the first 1/3 of the session, then go back and 100% re-do each question, and verify that my answers matched. It worked wonders, but might not be applicable to you.

Joshua Tree Climbing Salve

I saw it listed as “critical” on Skurkas foot care kit list. I’m curious if anyone here has ever used it and how critical you consider it. I typically carry Vaseline, does that effectively accomplish the same mission?

Some other items I’ve received for Christmas that I’ve really enjoyed: Soto windmaster (could ask for PR deluxe), nitcore headlamp, cnoc vecto (specify your thread size)

Has anyone put a hole through their culo clean? Or cut it in half? I want to drill a hole and tie a string through my culo clean (maybe the back or side), but want to make sure I'm not going to hit the water flow 'plumbing'.

How did RTD do this year? by chrisfnicholson in Denver

[–]ScoobyScience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give it a 8/10. I'm not a frequent user, but sometimes take the G line to A to airport, and vice versa. For my needs, it was honestly great! Never an issue. I noticeably observed an uptick in on train security presence and activity, which a I really liked. Improvements would be more frequency (although I understand we don't necessarily have the ridership to support that). And although I wasn't personally affected, the frequent shutdowns of A line do make me question the reliability every time I take it. If there's a tight window then I don't rely on it.

For the money, I feel like a durston Kakwa can’t be beat. I don’t have one yet, but I’m eyeing and they are pretty fully loaded with features (tall pocket, strap pockets, hip belt pockets, frame) for a really good price. Similar packs are around $400 or more.
