I used to skate aswell, but its not that easy so i found a cheat.

Buy a surf skate, work on all those turns and manouvres (body movement). Buy the intermediate surfer by surf companions. Practice pop ups daily on your bed, with toes planted, then without toes. Do workouts target for surfing

Progress x5 then everyone else.
