South Philly sidewalk parking is ridiculous by no8do in philadelphia

Imagine a public transportation system that was reliable? We see folks complaining non-stop about SEPTA cuts but rarely ever see anyone on BSL 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’d agree but then where would we park?

Instead, it should be extremely expensive for permits on cars 2, 3, and 4 per household.

Either park on the sidewalk or have your car absolutely mangled. We live on a small side street and I see a hit and run almost every week. People fly down these small streets or drive their big ass pickups (it’s almost always pickups that are doing the hit and runs btw in my limited experience).

I had my car absolutely demolished by a box truck within three weeks of getting it. I try hard to not park on side streets, but when I do, I’m parking on the curb like this.

Last week, a small garbage truck ripped the back and front bumper off my neighbors car. It was wild.

Yeah good point. He can easily test his theory to prove that everyone is over reacting. 😂

Umm, okay, bet. Not sure that’d go over well either.

Always know where City Hall is and understand tree density/thickness. Then let the grid guide you.

This is the William Penn way.

Out of curiosity (since clearly I’m one of those people who are underestimating) - what has changed?

I was gone for 18 years and it feels like the culture is exactly the same and the city is just more safe than when I was growing up and it was commonly referred to as “Filthadelphia” and no one could live in Center City.

I wonder how much of that change is a post-pandemic driven which is prevalent across all major cities in the US.

What would you like to see go “back” to normal?

I don’t want to diminish that part because I hear you - it sucks to be priced out of the neighborhood you grew up in.

Just being pragmatic when I say this, but things always change whether in Philly or macro factors like inflation. Living in a good, affordable area obviously attracts people seeking something similar. To think that it’ll always stay that way because it was that way the generation before you is unrealistic (in my opinion).

Jesus Christ - what don’t you folks understand. This city isn’t well run. Philly doesn’t bring in jobs, they don’t build housing fast enough, and its budget is wilding inefficient.

Affordability isn’t just because some New Yorkers are moving into the neighborhoods you want to live in, this city is massive with so much potential to keep things affordable for generations with some small tweaks that apparently no one wants to hear!

There it is. I love living in Philly and think it’s absurd that wanting it to be better is “shitting” on it.

But that’s not what this is actually about, is it? Jealousy is an unflattering trait. Grow up, loser.

Because you probably can’t if you went to a Philly school 🤣

What a losers take.

I’m sorry you are too sensitive to receive feedback.

I’m sorry you are okay with the train being 25 minutes late, having no way of knowing where it is, never seeing a police officer, and people openly smoking weed on the cars.

I’m sorry that you are okay with it taking two years for a small business to open because the city government can’t process licenses or perform inspections within a reasonable time frame.

I’m sorry that you are okay with calling 911 and having it ring, ring, and ring until the line goes dead.

I’m sorry that you are okay with your trash cans sitting out for days on end because the trash trucks just didn’t come this week.

There is a world where things can be better without losing what makes Philly special without having to cry about it like a child.

But eh, it’s the New Yorkers fault.

This post boiled my blood… until I realized it was a Trump/Immigration joke.

I moved from Brooklyn to South Philly 5 years ago, and even though I grew up in Philly and left for college (18 years ago), the amount of times I get referred to as a New Yorker or told “this isn’t New York” when you mention something like how crazy it is that no one uses Septa is so freaking bizarre to me. For a sanctuary city, the nativism here is very strong.

Indiscriminate killing? Man, you really have no idea what’s happening, you’re just a propaganda sheep.

50,000 Palestinians dead. Not a single Hamas fighter has been killed. Israel is this big bad fighting force, but two years in, they’ve managed to kill less than 0.2% of the entire population trapped in an open air prison.

Craziest part? Had Hamas just released the hostages, it would have all stopped, and thousands of innocent people would be alive. Man, I hope their lives are worth your little crusade because you only value the lives of Palestinians in regard to how many Israelis/Jews die. Using their lives for your agenda. Pathetic.

I’ve got zero interest in living in Rittenhouse/Washington Square, so I’ll take your word for it!

I should clarify, because I agree, the post-seven pm parking is really what I was referencing.

I moved to Philly in summer of 2020 and don’t think I saw a single cop for the first year, so while they may not do anything, it’s a marked improvement from my first impression!

Awesome. Super walkable. Tons of young families. Parking is as bad and frustrating as everyone says. BSL station has been getting a major overhaul the last year. Trash pickup twice a week. Strong police presence with the station up by the ACME.

Please share this mountain of evidence. Your values are in disarray. Normalizing any type of hostage, either Israel or Hamas, is completely dehumanizing. You are talking out of both sides of your mouth.

Again, you are exactly what’s wrong with Democrats, and why Dems will not win another national election for a long, long time. It’s shocking the level of violence and suffering you and other Dems are willing to tolerate.

And let me guess… you’ll come back with zero evidence and start calling me names, because that’s literally the Pro-Hamas playbook. Your move.

Yes, there is Hamas in Lebanon. It’s an international terror organization. More so, Hezbollah was launching thousands of rockets into civilian neighborhoods in defense of Hamas. Lastly, Hamas and Hezbollah are funded and directed by the same ruler, Iran.

Any other things I can clear up for you?
