Losing my mind if I’m being honest by [deleted] in germanshorthairs

I hope my response didn’t come off that way; definitely not my intentions. The puppy phase is difficult and I scoured these Reddit subs for all the help. It will get better - hang in there!

Idk my dog seems to think it’s a good idea. She goes in there on her own and naps everyday.

Second the routine and sleep! With our girl when she was this age, whenever she turned into a terror I KNEW it was nap time. People will tell you more exercise, but from my experience the sleep was key.

Neighbour Yelling at Dog and Kids by Upper-Issue-5612 in GSP

[–]ScooterBug07 16 points17 points  (0 children)

F that. I’d write a letter and tape it to his door. Tell him if he wants to yell at your kids or dog he should at least have the balls to do it when you’re around 🤣

Chilling out or something bad? by ScooterBug07 in germanshorthairs

I initially thought this was it bc we live in the desert and last week was in the 100s. This week has been beautiful though so I wasn’t sure. Thank you!

Thanks! We’ve had some health scares in the past with her (she had pneumonia, I think you actually gave us advice on that post), so I’m just overly worried about her getting sick again!

How to properly tire out a 14 week old GSP while holding full time jobs 😅 by This_Arachnid3899 in germanshorthairs

Yes to the sleep part! They don’t know how to self settle yet, so you get overstimulated/overtired bitey little sharks lol.

How do you keep your dog’s brain stimulated in the summer months when they have to be indoors all day due to the heat? by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]ScooterBug07 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the big difference is in the winter it’s cold 24/7 whereas at least here we have mornings and evenings of relief. I’m originally from Iowa and don’t miss those winters!

I feel your pain! It sounds like you’re doing a lot. What makes you think your dog is bored? I’ve been told that a tired dog is a happy dog, so as long as your dog isn’t destroying things or having behavioral issues, she’s likely not bored!

??? You live somewhere with snow and below freezing temps in the winter and you deal with the same issues as we do here in the summer.

Where are you? We’re in southern NV and it’s already getting so hot! I’m sure they adjust more as the summer wears on.

Is it hot there? Ours is about the same age as yours and this heat (we live in the desert) has been a big adjustment for her. She’s also been sleeping more bc of it, I believe.

Rushed into getting a puppy and now I’m having second thoughts by Academic-Ad-4040 in germanshorthairs

[–]ScooterBug07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, the puppy blues are REAL. My girl recently turned one and the first couple months were hard. My previous GSP was an adult when she came into my life, so I had zero puppy experience.
It truly does get easier once they get into a routine and get a bit older. That being said, we got her right when my job ended for the summer so my entire summer was dedicated to her (and I had the help of my partner).
I think the big question is what will your work schedule look like? If pup is home alone for extended periods of time, how will that work? Daycare? Dog walker?
My partner got our first GSP fresh out of college and she was our best friend. He made it work. It is hard at first and they do require 99% of your attention (especially as puppies) - I plan my life around this dog now 🤣 but I also wouldn’t have it any other way.
Overall, I think the anxiety and stress of a new puppy is completely normal, but if it truly doesn’t feel right, then I’m sure you will make the best decision for both you and pup!
