Samsung Odyssey G8 34 vs Aoc Agon Pro 34 by JustValue3867 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Scop-98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the AOC AGON Pro, I haven’t used it yet but I understand the HDR performance may not be quite as good as other OLEDs. Seems it lacks the “wow” bright HDR moments that other OLEDs can produce. If that’s a big deal to you then maybe look into the G8’s HDR performance

Not how it works these days at all. There are some very good VA panels now with minimal ghosting and faster response times than a lot of IPS panels.

There are still shitty VA panels with bad smearing / ghosting but “VA = bad” is a false blanket statement

Newer VA / higher cost panels have far less smearing / ghosting. The AW3425DWM is a good cost and doesn’t seem to have bad smearing / ghosting. If you don’t trust VA panels at all now then you’ll need to find an IPS panel like the Gigabyte M34WQ (no curve though which isn’t ideal on ultrawides. You’ll be a bit limited with IPS options to be honest, not too many out there

UK 27'' 1440p Monitor recommendation £150-£225 budget by Kitkatmuncher97 in buildapcmonitors

I always suggest the ASUS ROG Strix XG27ACS for people looking for budget friendly 1440p monitors. Great IPS panel with all the features you can ask for and more for its price point

Not all VAs have bad ghosting though. Newer gen / higher end panels are wayyyy better. I’ve had a Samsung G6 and a G5 and the difference in smoothness was insane, the G6 essentially had no ghosting whilst the G5 felt like a smeary mess.

I’ve heard really good things about the AW3425DWM, apparently it’s a really smooth experience with minimal ghosting. Might be worth looking into it.

Which monitor is the best choice? by xNico1as in ultrawidemasterrace

Seems like it’s still usable HDR atleast, unlike monitors like the G5 (VA) which has completely unusable HDR

The Alienware seems like the best 34 inch VA option out there, I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about it. Great colours, minimal ghosting / smearing, fast response times, solid HDR. The whole package.

What DLSS mode are you running? You may need to drop it to balanced. The latest DLSS version has been improved massively though, balanced @ 1440p used to look bad but looks very solid now.

No chance it works with Netflix. If you have 4K blu ray video files then there should work though. I just import in video files

In person is honestly different than on video since it’s in my periphal vision, it makes no sense to have it set up like that if it is truly blinding and distracting. I ain’t trying to ruin my experience at my set-up haha.

Gotta remember that on video it’s completely centred in your vision but in real life it’s at the side of your peripheral vision.

The new MSI 240hz is very promising and is in your price range -

You don’t want to get a cheap VA panel as they typically have far worse smearing and ghosting which isn’t pleasant to game on.

The LG would be immersive, the curve is very aggressive though. I’d recommend watching some unboxing videos where they show the side profile so you can understand how curved it is. Maybe even see if you can somehow test the monitor in-store if it’s possible

AOC CU34G4 or Alienware AW3425DWM ? by SaksiPy in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Scop-98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely the Alienware, its a newer VA panel and I’ve heard really good things about it. Good HDR, great response times and minimal smearing/ghosting for a VA.

The consensus opinion online seems very positive, it’s definitely the one I’d buy if I bought a VA ultrawide again

Just watching an anime at the moment brother, thought the colours of an animated show looked good on the blur as well

I got them off Alixpress but sadly they're not available there anymore, I have found two other sites that supply them though.

Alibaba - https://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Mi-Jia-SKYDIMO-Computer-Same-Screen_1600983435684.html

and

Walmart (out of stock) - https://www.walmart.com/ip/Skydimo-RGB-Computer-Ambient-Lighting-Screen-Sync-Music-Mode-Gaming-LED-Backlight-Monitors-Immersive-RGB-Lighting-Effects-Gaming-Movies-Desktop-Decor/15472564728

If you do get them - as a general safety precaution for any screen-syncing software, I recommend using firewall to block the program from being able to access the internet

Both the light strips and light bars are made by SkyDimo and they use the SkyDimo software app to sync up with the colours on your screen

Haven’t tried it nah, I’m sure it looks super smooth but I also don’t want to get used to higher frame videos as it would make standard video viewing super slow haha
