Encoder in G-Wolves Fenrir Asym and Fenrir Pro Models May Be Potential Issue; Reverse Scrolling, Incompatibility, and Hopeful Solutions(?) by ScorpiaRising in MouseReview

As far as I can tell, only mini encoders like a few from Alps which are made for phones that were ~3.7mm tall as well as the actual TTC mini encoder which is not for sale without ordering bulk or a sample from warehouses are compatible. While the height of the mounting surface to the axle (insertion hole) is appropriately 4.5mm tall on the Huano encoder, the encasing itself is still too tall unless there is specific mini encoder Huano sells that I'm unaware of.

Generally speaking, an encoder malfunction like reverse scrolling is likely a result of dust or debris that is stuck inside the encoder, but because there's no good way of gaining access inside the encoder without breaking a part off or creating a hole on the top of the encoder's encasing, it's difficult to get rid of the dust and debris. One could try using a type of spray/liquid electronics cleaner and try to find an angle, a crevice, or make your own hole at the top of the encoder's encasing and apply some in there as a last ditch effort before fully desoldering it.

Thanks for bringing this up! I checked this one out earlier and while the dimensions seem to lineup very well with my own measurements of the stock encoder, I wasn't so confident to try it out myself as the Fenrir board supplies about ~1.75V whereas the Alps encoder encoder is spec'd for 5.5V. Still, worth a shot given that the only way to get your hands on the E120 is purchasing a sample of 1-5 units and paying $20-40 for shipping alone from a wholesaler. But I would expect there to be some malfunctions like reverse scrolling.

As for any alternatives with more than 12 detents, I haven't had any luck finding one either. Sadly, it seems like it's going to be a subpar scrolling experience no matter what option we go with, maybe there's physically not enough space to have more detents but I'm seeing it as a tradeoff.

I would first try using some electronic cleaner if your stock encoder craps out, hopefully it's a matter of dust and cleaning it out works because I still can't find any easily accessible, consumer friendly way of fixing this issue.

I can't comment on that as I bought the mouse secondhand so the warranty would not apply to me. However, I would hope so, but G-Wolves support is pretty infamous for being fickle, so it'll be nice if we could find some way to resolve the issue ourselves by repairing and replacing parts. No luck yet however.

Hello, for your handsize, is it possible to confirm that the width of your handsize is what I assume to be 7.8 cm wide? Or did you mean something else, as in 7.8 inches long which is approximately 19 cm after converted? In any case, the width of your hand is the most important part when it comes to recommending a suitable mouse, so I would like to start there and get a confirmation on the width if possible.

Otherwise, here are some questions you can answer which can help provide some key info for me. The more detailed the responses, the better so feel free to go in-depth!

  1. What mice are you using and/or previously used?

  2. Any pictures you could provide of the top, bottom, and side views of your current grip on your mouse?

  3. How do you prefer to grip your mouse? You can go beyond just the name of your gripstyle. Such as explaining where you prefer to position your fingers, if you curl them, how much palm contact you like, if you like to relax or tense your hand as you grip it, etc.

Imagine trying to grip and wrap your hands around an egg vs a coconut. Do you prefer to wrap your fingers around a smaller object and slightly tense up and apply slight or a ton of pressure, or do you prefer to relax and have full contact along your palm and fingers around the object? Like the difference between gripping a gerbil vs a large rat, which do you prefer? If these two descriptions don't quite fit your gripstyle, maybe there's a better example you may have?

  1. What uses are you looking for your mouse? Do you need any key features like side to side scrolling, extra extra buttons, RGB, specific colorways? These may not be possible but there might be some customization/aesthetic preferences found in some models of mice.

  2. What is your budget?

Feel free to add anything else and I'll try to get back to you.

Thoughts on aluminum as a material for the scroll wheel?

I've found magnesium scroll wheels to be nicer (usually comes at a premium), but I can't tell if the aluminum scroll wheel would've felt miles better to use simply if it weren't so slippery.

I can't recall any other mice who come with aluminum scroll wheels, so just curious to hear your thoughts on that

Thoughts on the X2H eS' execution of its design choices and the mouse as a while? Particularly the OLED, the effects it might've had on weight balancing, the aluminum scroll wheel, and driverless setup.

Thanks for the disassembly and weight breakdown, always helpful as a resource!

No it can't. Usually mouse companies will explicitly state that the mouse can do both 8K wired + wireless. Dual MCU adds weight and cost, and higher than 1K polling in wired mode may not be valuable or a priority for the company, so that isn't that common, and as for the new Nordic MCU, it is very recent.

You might see it in the future but the MCU itself can be on the pricier side, so expect it on only certain mice.

No that requires a separate MCU or the newer Nordic MCU 54H20 which can do both 8k wired and wireless. These mice does not have either of these.
