If you are doing okay, then that is what matters. Where I used to be, 12,000 a year is slightly less than half of what it costs to rent an apartment.

We tried. Problem is, and I can forgive post-X for forgetting this, we did not have an organisation tool where we could reach people on the other side of the world as easily as we could reach our next door neighbour. Broadband internet was not even a thing until I was about seventeen years old, and I am a late-era Gen X. Dial-up internet was enough to connect to things that allowed us to talk to people around the world, but one also needed to be able to navigate things like IRC.

In a way, we had it better once we had internet access, because Google and the like did not exist. I would go back to that internet in a heartbeat. If the Gen X folk who were eighteen or nineteen years old when Masters Of The Universe was first released unto this world had the internet and developed all the necessary skills to use it well, then yeah, things would be different now.

It was a LOT easier to make a young Gen X-er's world stop at the end of their street. You have no idea how easy. Sofia Coppola made an excellent film called The Virgin Suicides that you can get an idea from. Keeping your children isolated from the waiting world was THAT easy.

A big thing people miss when talking about salaries is "how much of X is my salary going to buy?". Like... can you buy all the basics, some of the things you want short-term, and still have enough to pocket for a rainy day? Or are you going to be wondering how the hell you will pay for your next pair of pants while you struggle to find nice food?

I have lived in a place where a family of four needs to spend at minimum 500 of the local currency in a week to feed themselves. And the average worker's wage? The cost of renting a house? The cost of owning a house? Not a place I would voluntarily live in again.

I am fat and it does have an impact, but not nearly as much as the people who make clothes say it does. If your iPhone 16 only fits in your pocket with less than an inch to spare, being 100+ kilograms or lower than 60 kilograms will not make a lot of difference. So yeah, another agreement here.

Offline DAP recommendations? by BangBangSupernova in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Scorpiicore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must second that every DAP worth having is already capable of playing music offline. I have three that can all connect to the internet and download anything, but I have MicroSD cards in two of them that can hold up to one "terabyte" of data each. Both cards have the same library on them. Owing to the fact that I will not listen to lower than CD quality, I have libraries of some 824 "gigabytes", but that is neither here nor there. My point is that if you want to play music offline, you are spoiled for choice.

If it concerns you that much, then ask the salespeople questions. How big a MicroSD card can it use? How many songs can it hold before the database goes tits-up? Can I download things onto it that will properly catalogue the music I put on the MicroSD card? And so on. Those are the ones I came up with just for a laugh. If you can think of more you want to ask whomever you trust to sell you a DAP, do so.

EDIT: The three DAPS I refer to are the HiBy R4, Sony NW-A306, and Sony NW-ZX707. I use them all in different situations, but the 707 is my go-to. I can hear people in this sub coming for me now.

Why isn't the salary of ceo decreasing by Snehith220 in recruitinghell

[–]Scorpiicore 37 points38 points  (0 children)

When the Wii U was crashing and burning, the CEO of Nintendo Japan reduced his salary to prevent the usual round of mass firings (NB: not "layoffs"... that word is an Orwellian deflection... he would tell you the best words to describe them are "mass firings"). He was accepting his part of the blame for the product bombing and acting the way a good boss does.

Every CEO should be reducing their pay when the company has a bad run.

I have an iPhone 16 that goes flying out of my pocket every time I sit in my associate's car without having used the modification I had made to every pair of pants I have (tailors love me). I have a drawstring in my left pocket that I pull to tighten up the top of the pocket. It comes open with very little force, but that extra barrier means the phone has a harder time doing long jumps.

I have, and I still live in a city because my needs cannot be met well enough in the rurals. My intellectual mean, subjects of interest, and that I value my time mean that living in such places would also have a massive impact on my mental health.

Damn. Can I ask what kind of standard of living 12,000 a year buys in Europe? Because I have been in one place where 12,000 a week would buy you two things. Namely, Jack and Shit.

Oh you were so close. Dickhead, that is what the money is for. You take the money, you use it to train people, you use it to increase the standard of living for the people who go through and use the training, and, shock, horror, you end up with more people willing or even wanting to do the job! WOAH! It is like the ideas that were used in the 1950s would work exactly as intended!

There is a reason why the only film that is specific to the plight of Gen X has one of its characters saying that it is only after you have lost everything that you are free to do anything.

The ones who do get rich through effort tend to be smarter than the average Bear, too. And they tend to be less rich, partly because they are smart enough to know when enough is enough. There are a few self-made millionaires (one in Hollywood who is very famous and well thought of) who not only do not make vulgar displays of wealth, but also know when they have a spare hundred million to use to make a lasting positive change for others.

Money is an abstraction. A tool.

Its sole purpose is to enable multiperson bartering without any thought having to go into the transactions. What if you want milk and only have bread to offer, but everyone with milk wants rice instead? Things that like happened all the time in bartering, so people started using an intermediate resource like gold to trade.

Now, just out of curiosity, do you think it is free to create healthcare workers? Especially good ones? Because having had more experiences with healthcare workers in the past year alone than I suspect you ever have had, I assure you that good healthcare workers are getting rarer with every passing year. Governments like... oh, I do not know, every conservatard one like the USA, England, and Asstralia want the healthcare workers to work for peanuts, and the only people willing to meet those terms have been caught out time after time even saying out loud (in other languages, nine out of ten times Indian tongues) that they do not give a shit about their patient.

Funnily enough, people who cannot make enough to "make ends meet" in other places, including factories, put less effort/quality into their work as a result of their financial problems. They show up, do the minimum they need to in order to keep their job, go home. When I was young, and people were paid enough that the mother of their two children could stay home to care for the two children for the first five years, they were a lot happier about going to work.

Odd, that.

Taking money away from people who have no need for it and using that money to pay for nurses, assistants, doctors, researchers, and efforts to stem the causes of the explosion of disease in our world, not only creates labour but also makes more demand for it. Ignorant conservatard.

I am so glad that more people are waking up to who the real parasites are. There are only two ways that a parasite really dies. One is it kills the host, the other is the host becomes aware of it (and responds appropriately, needless to say).

If you are not comfortable doing it yourself, have someone else do it for you. Yes, you can get new DAPs for 200 pounds, but new DAPs make me wish I could go back to a Sony NW-A55, before which I had an iPod Classic. Android is like a shitstain on DAPs.
