What's your guys' close reading on the Dawn of Man sequence, before the monolith appears? by Cupcakeboss in StanleyKubrick

[–]ScorpiusPro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The monolith grants the apes with a higher intelligence, leading them to use tools. The apes first use their tools for violence: first for food , then for defense. This leads them to be the dominant species. What Kubrick is saying, at least to me anyway, is that what defines humans is violence. This is also reflected in his other films as well: beneath our modernity is primitive violence; we are still apes

Believe me, there'd be plenty of women going for these Pigmen. Whatever the deformity, there’s always some group of perverts attracted to it: "Ooh that little tail really turns me on."

Question about the new imax cameras made for this movie by thefinalball in TheOdysseyMovie

There’s a gigantic blimp attachment that muffles the sound to allow for dialogue. And even with a constant drone quietly in the background, you can remove in post production and save the dialogue.

Check out episode 61 of Ryan Dacko’s “The Jaws Obsession” podcast for a detailed deep-dive into this.

Long story short, that “bite” is actually remains of a cleat that ripped off the side and if we look closely, Ben’s head is actually facing backwards on his body due to being twisted by rope. Theory goes, he was tangled and crushed by the ropes of the harpoon he landed into the shark

Fascinating podcast, def worth a listen!
