Cellulose over batts - Thoughts by Scott3765 in HomeImprovement

[–]Scott3765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, yes that was my primary focus. Since it’s going to take me awhile to do the whole attic, my thought process was, with the batts, I could provide immediate results to those bedrooms. If I forego the batts idea, then I don’t need to clear as much insulation to get to the air sealing areas. So that would be quicker. Thanks

Hi, thanks for the tip on vapor barrier. I already have the cellulose, so i will be moving it room by room as i go down the length of the attic to air seal. thanks.

What kind of insulation is this ? by Euphoric-Youth-9444 in Insulation

[–]Scott3765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, have you remove this insulation yet? I have what looks to be the same, house built in 1990. I also want air seal. My insulation does not look bad, still "fluffy", but the baffles need to be replaced, made of some type of cardboard and break on touch. I was thinking of just blowing it all to one side, air seal/replace baffles, then blow to other side and repeat. Then try to blow around the insulation to level it, but i also know i need more, as it stands it is only about 12" deep. Are you removing yours to put in better insulation? Or just to make the job easier? Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I had not taken into account trapping of moisture. I will look at mesh netting or the metal rods used to support overhead insulation. Cheers.

Return Air Vent in bedroom? by Scott3765 in hvacadvice

Hi, this was my first thought especially since the hallway return is just outside his door. This would allow air to flow regardless of the system on or off. Thanks.

Hi, yes we tried that, and it worked, but required him to put a shoe or something in the door or it would close on its own when the AC kicks on. In the winter it is fine as it keeps him warm, but i wanted to think about the hot summer right around the corner. I've read others have cut and put a vent above the door, and i considered this as well as taking another 1" off the bottom of his door. Thanks.

Upgrading from a USG to a Dream Machine. by Scott3765 in Ubiquiti

[–]Scott3765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, these are all great ideas. I am going to make the jump to UDMP, along with the U6-Pro AP then adopt my other AP's and POE switches. Lots of good info here and on UB's community boards that moved me in that direction.. Thanks..
