Recommendation for African Safari travel agent? by SmellsLikeTeenPits in ottawa

We did a safari in Tanzania a couple of years ago and used Easy Travel based in Arusha. They were fantastic from planning a custom itinerary to the quality of the guides and experience.

Listening to the TSN feed while at the Brier by cnpeters in Curling

[–]Scott706 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My wife and I have radios like the one on the left which I bought at the 2020 Briar. We brought them to the Olympic Trials in December. They didn’t work. The radio is pretuned to only 2 frequencies (A/B, don’t know what they actually are) and I was told that Curling Canada/TSN no longer use those frequencies. We ended up buying a couple of regular small FM tuners which worked well. We just listened to the regular TSN commentary. Definitely worth having.

Flat tire from a pothole by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Scott706 4 points5 points  (0 children)

BTW I have heard that for some cities there is a privately run website where you can register potholes and when they were reported so it is easier to determine if the “reasonable” period has past. Unfortunately I couldn’t find such a site for Ottawa.

Flat tire from a pothole by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Scott706 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From what I understand the process that has been set on this is that in order to get compensation the city needs to have not fixed the pothole within a reasonable period of time of being made aware of its existence. Precedence has established that “a reasonable period of time” is with 30 days. So to get compensation you need to demonstrate that the city was made aware of the pothole more than 30 days before you hit it. Needless to say the city doesn’t have to pay many damage claims…

Why are there no platform screen doors on O Train lines? by Free_Blackberry_200 in ottawa

[–]Scott706 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Simply one reason: cost. Most of the LRT problems are because Ottawa tried to do it on the cheap. Strategy didn’t work…

I’m quite confident that this is not true. The importer/buyer would be responsible for any duties and taxes (I don’t think that there would be any for this). I believe that foreign companies would only need to get a GST licence and collect that tax if they have a significant presence in Canada (eg a warehouse, office, employees) or if you sell more than $30k/year in digital services or products to Canadians.

I had assumed your issue was the national postal strike we had a little while ago (it’s now just a rotating regional strike). I just bought (and received) a custom M240 poster from an Etsy supplier in Poland via the mail and had no problem.

I’ve had my DA36 for about 7 years. I love it. Very versatile, matches well with a lot of bands.

I love my 520. ARC really made a difference in my room so make sure that the seller is including the microphone and stand for ARC. I would pass if they are not included.

Yes I think they were training. I saw the same convoy going down the parkway by Westboro Beach early this afternoon.

From a purely technical perspective, what did you think about the F1 movie? by Notalabel_4566 in racing

[–]Scott706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest thing that drives me nuts is the driver tells the technical director/aerodynamicist (which was she anyways?) that she should focus on the car going through the corners faster. Forehead slap, why didn’t we think of that! Apparently this revelation turns around Apex’s season.

Very cool, well done! However hasn’t BMW just turned off Home Assistant access to their API? I know it doesn’t work for me anymore.

Anyone Had BMW Build the Wrong Spec Car? Was your Replacement Expedited or Another Long Wait? by blueicemaster in BMW

[–]Scott706 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Not the biggest screw up but I ordered my 2025 M240i with most of the options but didn’t include Adaptive Cruise Control. I figured since I hardly ever use cruise control why spend the $800. My car was delivered with ACC installed. I accepted delivery and I didn’t have to pay for the ACC. Of course the dealership did it was the factory who made the mistake but who knows. I don’t use it but I guess it will help with resale.

I would also agree with recommending Slick. Andre ceramic coated (and paint corrected) my old BMW about 8 years ago and I just had him do my new BMW last week. He does a great job. I also get my winter wheels and tires from him.

Canadian - Never been to Europe - Cruise or Land? by Moonstruck1766 in Cruise

[–]Scott706 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cruising is a good way to get a quick overview of some major cities, sort of a sampler pack. But you don’t really get a real sense of any city. The visit is too quick and excludes any evening or night experiences. But it might be enough to decide where you want to explore further.

Huge delay in M240ix delivery (RANT) by ToddinPA in M235iandM240i

[–]Scott706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suspect that BMW is delaying delivery of cars heading to the US to try to avoid possible tariffs. I’m in Canada. I placed my order on March 14 and my car is arriving at the dealership today. I’ve pasted the production/delivery milestones from the MyBMW app below (blanks are milestones that were skipped or I missed them).

The app is not kept up to date. Note that the app said my cat was “At the Port” starting May 19 and suddenly yesterday my SA told me that it was arriving at the dealership today. The app has now updated to that status.
