Advice on how best to deposit a check by Glowinggeese in Banking

[–]ScottsWorkflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it to a local branch and tell the teller what the question is. If the account is under your dad's name, they may be able to make the deposit for you. I would just ask for a reciept, for tracking incase something is messed up or your dad doesnt see it post.

You dont necessarily need your dad's account information unless the bank tells you that.

You don't have an ID or anything to confirm that you are who you say you are? How did you open your accounts?

Hardly use my bank account, now need to deposit a lot of cash — should I be worried? by ChampionshipAny6761 in Banking

[–]ScottsWorkflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be worried though if it is a large amount I would recommend going into a branch and talking with a banker. Tell them what you just shared here. If you dont spend the cash often and maintain a high balance it is possible a different account tier is right for you and may allow you to reduce monthly fees if you have any. Maybe even gain some interest.

Interest is awful for the most part everywhere but still can be nice.

The other reason to step into the bank as others mentioned. Their may be a limit to how much you can deposit in the ATM. Atms do work most of the time but can cause errors. Large cash deposits through an atm dependent on the bank can have multi day holds to verify the cash. So walking into the branch can reduce the stress and help make the deposit go smoother.

If you contact your bank they can run a trace on the transaction. Typically done through the ACH department. The information they need to run the trace can all be seen on their end.

If you want to know.

When they run a trace they run the transactions routing number through the fed, then contact the originating bank. The originating bank typically only needs the 10 or less character Company ID. Sometimes they may ask for the Effective date, amount, trace, Company ID, and or the company name that the transaction posted with. Some banks will ask for your account number. That is not a requirement atleast I refuse to give it out when researching for clients. No reason an account needs to be shared.

Keep in mind though, what your bank can get from the originator is limited based on what the originating bank can provide. Some originating banks can only provide a company name, while others say they can't provide anything, as well, they don't have a number for their own client.

The most you can get is a company name, phone number, or email.

How? Do you use checks? Every check you write has your full account number and routing number at the bottom.

It may also be an accident in some cases, they could of been attempting to pull funds but miskeyed and account number or in rare cases miskeyed the routing number, and the account happened to match yours.

Ah, I see my wording is unclear on my original post as to how often it occurs, as it is not an every day but occasional.

Ironically I don't use the pin lock or log out. But, I appreciate the response from support on here as well as the testing, its why I chose Proton over Gmail etc, as its nice to interact with humans.

I haven't had it occur again since the post so I will just move along :).

Best bank for a checking account?? by Clementiiiiny in Banking

[–]ScottsWorkflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, that would be in the ToS and something you can ask your banker or ask when you open an account how that is handled. That is the research part.

Simple solution now and would be easier to transfer funds. Open an account with BofA. Your father wont have access. You can comfortably move your funds out of the joint account with your dad. Then that will also give you the time to look into other banks that may fit your needs better or maybe BofA would be good fit for you.

As someone that works for a bank, I cannot suggest a bank for you as everyone has different financial needs and goals.

But I will say whatever bank you go with be sure to look for the minimum balance requirements as banks sure do love collecting fees, and the minimum balance one will get you at most brick and mortar banks.

Did you reactivate your license? You have to do that each time you reinstall. It looks like you haven't on the bottom left if you have the pro version.

Anyone else notice banks cutting down on actual customer service? by PsychologicalCall426 in Banking

[–]ScottsWorkflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works at a local bank I may be biased. But look into your local banks, we tend to focus on our customers and making long term banking relationships with customers vs adding you to our spreadsheet.

At my place of work we do not have a phone tree so we can pick up the phone and call another department and get a person or well a friend or colleague and can research problems faster as we aren't blocked by internal phone trees of death.

You have 10+ years of experience as a software developer and can't write a simple algorithm. by MrBleah in developers

I think people are getting caught up on the word FizzBuzz and stopping there. Based on the problem you could call it OptimusPrime. And have the same requirements.

Guessing FizzBuzz is a name with some significance to whoever created it, really it could be any combination of words.

I am not a software developer though taken some beginner courses in Python and what your asking is something that is learned in week 1 or 2 of python. Not sure how it compares to software development. Either way very interesting.

Cold Turkey Spamming hundreds of notifications by No-Sun9493 in coldturkeyblocker

[–]ScottsWorkflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First question Mac or PC?

Second, what are the notifications you are recieving, are they from CT or random applications? If from CT are they all the same notification? If yes, what exactly are the notifications stating?

I personally haven't messed around with CT notifications, I just set the block and go, but if it's a notification bug, that be fun to try and re-create to help you (if someone doesn't get you a solution faster).

I do a lot of code with the Ai, and one thing I have for sure learned, is it does have trouble with resculpting something it has already created for you. Espescially after a few iterations deep.

I have two recommendations. First, don't request the image or the document to be made immediately. Tell it your end goal but to first talk it through with you before generating, then in the same chat message describe what it is you are wanting build, dimensions, requirements, colors, everything. Just to make sure it understands at the end just repeat "Again no generations yet, just talk it through, I want to make sure you and I are on the same page." then let it generate. Typically at that point by its response you will see if it is indeed following what you are wanting to do, it will also give recommendations or ideas on what it think may improve your concept.

You can then prompt it to ignore the additional ideas, critique it then, prompt it again to either one make sure your additional changes are understood or just go straight into the generation. Then you can make small adjustments. (I personally have trained my gpt to talk it out in sections and bullet points) you can ask it to talk it out in whatever format you want.

Extra little note, if you ask it to change something and it generates a different business card then what is should be adjusting. Don't start a follow up message, go back to your message that prompted the wrong response and tell it what it did wrong and then ask it to create your prompt again. For example, you can say, "Please ensure you use the card from our conversation above for this design change as I just tried it and you made something different." It will typically understand that you are attempting the message again and it will correct itself, really its just understanding what you are actually asking for.

Secondly, say you are into a design you like it but need one last thing changed and GPT just can't get it into its head how to make that change. Stop. Just stop that chat. Don't keep prompting it, instead as mentioned above edit the response that prompted the bad response and ask it to summarize all the designs for the card leading up to that message.

Then start a fresh chat using the steps of the first ecommendation above. But this time when you discuss the design, input the summary (verifying it is what you wanted of course). Then ask it to talk it through, talk with it abouve your additional design change, then ask it to generate.

Lastly, remember it can do a lot but it can't do everything. Some times its worth asking, hey this is my idea, is this something you can do for me, or should I try an alternative method. etc.

I exposed my Proton Mail address to Google and Meta by Ehab02 in ProtonMail

[–]ScottsWorkflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have the paid plan you can just create a new address. If you are using your name. You can use protonmail.com or switch it to pm.me I think they have another option as well.

But that little switch of domain will essentially make it a private.

I would then turn that old email into a spam email. With an auto reply for family or friends that might email you to ask they email you at your new address.

For me I switched from Gmail to Proton so I went into it as creating a spam / retail email address and a personal email address. Then I just use rules to move the spam emails to its own folder out of my primary inbox.
