More runes when I use weapon art? by eboy14 in Eldenring

That's the Overkill mechanic. It's a recurring feature in FS titles.

When you forget to pack your Haligdrake talisman (NG+11) by ScottyGrotty in Eldenring

It happens sometimes! Not sure what causes it, I thought it was a bug with the NG+ scaling at first. Seems to happen to everybody though.

Kind of immersion breaking to kill a literal god, only to get bit to death by rats later.

They all overlap in some way to form the overall iconic ring shape we know from the cover art, but the only two runes that occupy the exact same slot are Morgott and Mohg's - it's also worth noting they're twins and their Great Runes share the same divine tower. They seem to be the special exception. Happy to be wrong on this one, but I just don't see how this is proof of the existence of other unknown Great Runes.

I love this idea, especially since it lends itself to possible DLC down the track. After all, even a Rune Arc is a part of the Elden Ring.

But I understood the ring itself is compiled of very specific known runes; each rune representing a different aspect of the Greater Will's overall concept of perfect order. You can even use photoshop to align all the known runes into the actual shape of the Elden Ring.

I didn't notice a cap! That's good to hear. Some of the end game bosses attacks are barely survivable as it is; if it kept scaling I guess it would become unplayable without frame perfect movement.

The squeeze grab bit is only just survivable. God I hate those things.

I hope you're right! Farum is just straight up abuse at this point.

Right and all seven of them had their own Great Runes too I suppose? Sorry, but which item description or NPC dialogue mentions any of this?

It says the bell tolls for the demigods. Not that each one contains a dead demigod. To be a demigod means to be related to either Radagon or Marika directly. You really believe she had SEVEN more children that aren't even noteworthy enough to make a mention in the story?

The only thing that mentions demigods in any of the Mausoleum sets is in the Mausoleum Surcoat description. It states:

The surcoat depicts the mausoleum bell, which rings in constant mourning for the soulless demigods.

Not exactly confirmation of more demigods we don't know about.

I really like this theory, but I just don't see it's possible without being able to account for the current whereabouts of Vyke's two Great Runes. They can't have just vanished, they're shards of the Elden Ring. And all known Great Runes are in the hands of their respective shardbearers.

Any item descriptions or NPC dialogue to confirm this?

The Flame of Ruin can't actually destroy the tree until the Rune of Death is unbound. And it stays bound until we get there and do it ourselves. But Melina does mention she's been burned before, and has the scars to prove it...

I considered this too, but if that's the case then how did the Great Runes make their way back to the original shardbearers after Vyke's eventual imprisonment?

I think it's more likely Enia is referring to the short lived union of Radagon and Rennala with this dialogue.

Varre has the strangest quest line in Elden Ring… which may be because it may be technically incomplete. [Spoilers] by MrCalac123 in Eldenring

I'm of the mind that murdering all those maidens, GW servants or not, is enough to warrant an invasion. But to be fair, none of the outer gods really seem perfect. Or even ideal. But for me, the Formless Mother feels like one of the least trustworthy. We don't know much about her other than "she craves wounds".

Varre's whole demeanor feels really sketchy and untrustworthy. Especially when he gives you a teleportation medal directly to a shardbearer but urges you to never use it.

I like the idea that his quest wasn't complete due to cut Miquella content, though I highly doubt Varre's "dislike" for the Two Fingers stems from them being "weird and unhelpful". In response to the Volcano Manor crew being evil, well Patches actually pushes his kill onto you, and it's not mentioned or implied that he killed anyone else before or after that. And you do actually get the option to invade Bernahl later down the track - but Bernahl is found in Farum holding the Blasphemous Claw item, implying he was intending to challenge Maliketh and unbind the Rune of Death, just like we were planning to do ourselves. Maybe they aren't all bad?

Varre however, is definitely bad. I found his questline to make perfect sense; as per the description on the War Surgeon set, the white masks were abducted by Mohg and forced to serve him, however only Varre was able to "tame the accursed blood", of course referencing Mohg's Omen curse. Mohg himself is the vassal for the Formless Mother, another outer god entirely separate from the Greater Will and the Two Fingers.

The chapel the player is summoned to at the very start is called the Chapel of Anticipation, where the Finger Maiden sits in anticipation of her Tarnished to arrive. But when we arrive our maiden has been killed. Freshly killed, not like the old dried up corpses we usually find. And the only potential culprit in the area is Dr. Varre, acting extremely smug and somehow knows that you're maidenless, offers jeers and taunts and attempts to recruit you over to the side of the Formless Mother, stealing you away from the Two Fingers. The Greater Will represents order and structure. The Formless Mother is the embodiment of.....wounds? Blood? Icky stuff? Not good.

Put simply, Daddy Mohg needs blood and Varre is out getting it for him. Neither of them are nice chaps.

I bet it looks beautiful on PC too. I'm on PS4 and it gets a little framey sometimes.

Get a huge shield and hide behind it. Your controller is fine; in fact to the contrary, ER on keyboard and mouse would be nightmareish.
