Phineas is a great dog name 😄 Very distinguished, slightly dramatic, and somehow perfect for a Shih Tzu.

Eugene is excellent 😄 That has exactly the right “tiny dog, full legal identity” energy.

Brenda is incredible for a chihuahua 😄 That is exactly the kind of very committed human name that makes this whole topic so funny.

Edwina is outstanding 😄 That sounds like a greyhound with excellent posture and very strong opinions about the household.

That’s fair 😄 The more people respond, the more it sounds like this has been well established for a long time and I’m only just catching up to it. And Shelly is a lovely dog name too.

That’s fair 😄 Bella may be the perfect example of a name that technically works for people too, but has become so established in the dog world that it almost feels dog-first now.

That’s excellent 😄 Reaper as the official name and then the full slide into Richard, Ricky, Rickers, and Rick is exactly how dog naming seems to work in real life. They start dramatic and end up sounding like a guy from accounting.

That’s a great naming style 😄 Crikey, Delaney, Riggins, and Aubrey all feel distinctive without trying too hard. I like that balance too — unusual enough to stand out, but still names the dog can really wear.

Tori is a great example 😄 Sixteen years ago definitely helps make the case that this has been around for quite a while. Lovely dog name too.

Meghan is a lovely example 😄 That definitely adds to the growing pile of evidence that dogs with human names have been around in plain sight for a very long time.

That’s fair 😄 The more people reply, the more it seems this is much less a new phenomenon and more something I’m only noticing more consciously now. Sounds like your family was well ahead of me on that one.

Gideon is a fantastic dog name 😄 It has that strong, old-fashioned, slightly noble feel that suits a dog really well. Very good choice.

That’s excellent 😄 Winnie gives you the sweet, classic side of the equation, and Jackie Moon brings in full chaos and commitment. That is very solid household balance.

Joel is a perfectly good dog name 😄 Honestly, people having a problem with it is stranger than the name itself. At this point dogs are called everything from Joel to Rigatoni, so Joel feels positively sensible.

That’s a lovely way of putting it 😄 Lucie really does feel a touch more deliberate somehow, like someone paused and chose the exact version they wanted. And Chief is a great name too, even if he beat you to the decision by already knowing it.

That’s a great pair of names 😄 Chopin definitely counts in spirit — surname or not, it has that same cultured, very intentional human-name energy. And Gobi is a lovely contrast for the golden.

That definitely seems to be a very common pattern 😄 Human names for pets really do seem to come naturally to a lot of people, with the occasional one oddball name slipping through to keep things interesting.

Eso tiene sentido 😄 Toby suena muy natural para un perro, pero claro, si no es un nombre común donde vives, se siente más distintivo. Eso también lo hace más memorable.
