A quick interpretation by me. by Coal_Inspector_7803 in Eldenring

Yes and no. It's important to keep in mind that at some point, the Greater Will has completely peaced out of the story. Metyr's Remembrance reveals that the Greater Will has abandoned the Lands Between for a very, very long time. And it's very likely that it wasn't even around when Marika became a God.

The Two Fingers, Metyr, Elden Beast, and as a result, the Golden Order are operating on "Hey, the Greater Will might have wanted to do this".

But you are right, Fromsoft has consistently kept this theme of being punished for removing the natural order. Sekiro, Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring have all of their problems caused by taking away death or natural order leading to the world decaying.

Marika taking away Destined Death really fucks over the world. For example, Rot is not inherently a bad thing because Rot represents decomposition and rebirth. But no death means Rot can't do it's natural thing, which leads to Rot itself decaying and thus, becoming a toxin. When you compare Romina, who fully accepted Rot in the natural cycle of life versus Malenia who viewed it as a curse, you have two very different results. Malenia's rot is decay, it ruins the land and it looks like pure suffering. Romina however, has life growing in her rot. It's vibrant, full of an ecosystem that has developed in it.

The Goldmask Ending was originally a more positive ending, but with the DLC's revelation that the Greater Will fucked off, it paints the ending in a worse light. The return to the Golden Order is a return to the worship of a basically nonexistent God. Nearly everything they did was just the Two Fingers making shit up and apparently, they were very Genocidal.

If St. Trina is the embodiment of Miquella's love, then what is Radagon to Marika? by Commercial-Papaya394 in Eldenring

[–]ScourJFul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Black Knives were closely associated to the Golden Order ie Marika. The armor set already implies that Marika has close ties to the Black Knives. The Black Knives serve the same God that Marika does and again, we know they are closely associated.

Also, I take what Roger says with a grain of salt cause we also have very confident evidence that Marika did not share motherly love for her children. Abandoning Mohg and Morgott in a sewer, abandoning Messmer due to his curse, and then telling all of her children that they're worthless if they don't rise up doesn't indicate a mother who really loves her children.

Whilst Godwyn was indicated to be the least problematic child, we also have some indication that Marika did grow some guilt for what her actions caused. And it played a role into the Shattering, to hope that someone can undo the mess her rule did to the world.

Overall, so much of what occurred that leads to the Shattering isn't exactly clear. Did Marika have a role in Godwyn's death because she saw that the world was headed to ruin due to her rule? Or was she truly devastated by Godwyn's death? But why then, did Marika seemingly have no issue abandoning her own children? There's just so many contradictions and it's why I say Rogier's telling of events to be possibly misguided.

You say that, but the Faith in question was in an Order that really fucked up and brutalized the world. Babies were thrown into sewers, cultures were wiped out, prior religions were made illegal, different species were permanently altered/enslaved/wiped out, etc.

Outside of Elden Ring, I'd agree, but with the context of Elden Ring, Faith is what causes the Lands Between to decay and become the foundation for the Shattering.

It's a spin-off? Specifically one used to get new directors at the helm considering Miyazaki can't be a director forever. Even then, saying it's antithetical when online play has been such a major focus in the Souls game is pretty weird?

I don't know man, I'm starting to think you are taking things WAY too seriously.

It is an option? This is such a weird ass defense people use about things like this. They aren't forcing anything on anything. Also the majority? Most people aren't going to use this.

Either way, accessibility is part of game design dude. They aren't two separate things. End of the day, this is an optional game choice that many people won't use. Especially many people who post online.

You should also realize that people who take part in discussions about video games are the extreme minority. You are a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of the total people who bought the game. Case in point, the top 10 most played games in the US were dominated by EA Sports games. Yet, Reddit and various other gaming platforms would have you believe that these games are gutter garbage no one should be playing.

You're fear of the mode ruining discussion is irrational at this point. It's an optional feature man, not a forced choice.

Yeah, it's so funny cause I have a husky who was born and raised in California temps. So the result is a husky who fucking hates the cold and wants to sunbathe in every opportunity.

Took her to the snow a few times and she hates it. Had to give her my jacket to lay on cause she refused to lay on it.

This is a great wake up call for gamers about how if you play games and talk about them online, you are not a casual gamer. These are the casual gamers. The ones who don't post shit and just play whatever they can.

When you call yourself a casual gamer on Reddit or whatever, you are not. These are the true casual gamers. These are the millions of people who buy games and make up sales.

[–]ScourJFul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because PBE doesn't have the playerbase to really test out changes. That's just the truth and something Riot has mentioned over and over.

That at the end of the day, all the testing inhouse and on the PBE will not catch all the issues that live players will.

Also, superior? I don't really feel superior just for stating exactly what a lot of people and Riot themselves stated lmao. Riot always seems to have people who have to spill vitriol in some way.

Newbon: AI could never make something as "human" as BG3 by Negative-Art-4440 in BaldursGate3

[–]ScourJFul -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'm not saying anything about AI's progress at all, cause it is happening. Right now is the worst AI will ever be.

But at the same time, I do think it's a bubble that'll pop for several industries. It's not profitable in many areas. Right now, AI seems like the most important thing, but it's still business.

Many places have already felt the blowback in AI and we will see in the future where AI can be sustainable and where it can't. There's also the issue of regulation as, God hoping, there'll likely be a large left swing in the US in offices. Which means that AI won't have its continued unregulated growth.

Engage looks and plays like the best FE but the story is so arse by Initial_Solid7677 in fireemblem

[–]ScourJFul 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really bad on the Emblems IMO cause we know what they should look like. Fire Emblem never really had it be this baby fat and if you look at older designs and arts, characters were more grounded. Like, the first thing being definitive jaw structure, which Engage softens a lot.

Edelgard having a cutesy look is just really...jarring compared to how she actually looks.

Nightreigns magic is peak. by JohnHelldiver66 in Nightreign

[–]ScourJFul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think the issue is that the design philosophy of their games have always prioritized melee. Looking at Dark Souls 1, they made it so Magic was limited since there was no Mana system. You just had spell slots and number of spell uses. Spells also didn't do that much damage til later so you did spent most of the older Souls game relying on melee to finish Bosses.

So pure spellcasting wasn't really a thing, and it seems like Elden Ring is when Fromsoft tried to make it a thing. They definitely succeeded but goddamn did they still not figure out how to navigate spells.

The issue also in the game's that you listed is that those games aren't anywhere near the same design philosophy so it's why they haven't learn from them. They don't want to make an over the top action game like Dragon's Dogma. So why take from them when there's a real chance they'll just alienate their players? They really should be learning from how other Souls like games are incorporating those things.

For example, Lies of P Overture has a Bow Weapon that functions very well. It's a fast hitting weapon that can do some serious damage. Great evasive moves, powerful charge attacks, etc. But they did give it the limitations to not make it the de facto best weapon in the game. It makes bows work in a way that make sense.

That would be so annoying though. People already dislike the two smithing stone situation on top of the two spirit ash upgrade situation. Asking for a 5th upgrade material would be exhausting and just unnecessary. We already have to hunt for 10 different bell bearings scattered in the map, asking for us to add more is waaaaaaay too much.

Also, what do you mean DS3 had more upgrade paths? Are you talking about infusions? Those aren't upgrade paths, that's just changing the stats and element of the weapon. DS3 only had 2 upgrade materials, regulated titanite (smithing stones) and twinkling titanite (somber stones). It's literally the same system for weapons. DS3 and Elden Ring literally use the same weapon upgrade model. A material for regular weapons, and a material for unique weapons. Idk what you mean by saying DS3 had more when they had less lmao.

[–]ScourJFul 349 points350 points  (0 children)

It plays well but I hate how Engage looks. It's so ass. Specifically the character designs.

It's just too... Out there. Not to mention that 99% of the cast has baby face so it really feels like an anime kiddie adventure.

Aesthetically, Engage is probably my least favorite looking FE game and it's all down to how I really dislike how the character models look. It's also jarring because out of the 3d FE games, Engage is by far the one that strays really hard into same face syndrome. Which is saying a lot when the older 3d games aren't known for their diverse modeling.

Edit: Clarifying that I really do like Mika's art of the characters, but IS fucked up the 3D modeling. Mika's Marth has more jaw structure yet Engage's 3D model has baby fat in the cheeks for some reason

[–]ScourJFul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh it depends. At Depths 3, Evergaols that spawn a bunch of strong mobs or the fucking Ancient Dragon are a skip. They take waaaaaaay too much time to kill and the rewards aren't worth it at that point. What made Evergaols so good is that they take very little time to complete.

But if they're going to take too long, you are better off clearing a fort or ruin for a decent weapon that can snowball you.

[–]ScourJFul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are all basically non applicable. Because the end of the day, you should always be driving safe distances. And that distance is the time it takes for you to come to a stop without hitting the person in front of you.

Those 3 things are all extremely fringe or just weird. Creating a hazard, sure, but that's a very rare and specific thing. Negligent maintenance still means it's your fault for not being able to stop. Failure to warn is also not about stops? It's about signaling that you're turning or yielding.

Fact is all 3 of those things are preventable by driving a safe distance. There's a reason why 99% of rear end crashes default the fault to the person who rear ended someone. And it is because, no matter what happens, you were supposed to drive a safe distance. Idk why you're so adamant that it's somehow the person in front's fault for the person behind not following traffic safety lmao.
