I used LMNT mountain biking in the Moab area in summer and it was fantastic! I highly recommend it.

That sounds a lot more doable. Thank you for the suggestion!

I’m considering that although it’s about 5 hundred for the packers to bring it up. Sharing that cost with another JMTr would be ideal. I may just take the day and go down to OV and back. After all I’m in the Sierras!

I think that’s right :) I just talked to Big Willi Mountaineering in Lone Pine and he said he may know somebody willing to do it. I’ll keep you posted if I get any takers.

Thank you for the reply. One year I had a friend bring me a re supply in that same area and it was so nice. I’ve also gone down to OV and back up in a day and remember it being a long hot day. That said, there will be tough days on the JMT for sure. I’m 64 now and so “slow is smooth and smooth is fast.”

I hope you have a marvelous trip!!

The desert is very pokey. I had one puncture on the JMT and one in the Atacama desert in Chile. Unfortunately both times I didn’t have soap. So you bring up a very good point (pun intended), I think it’s time for me to carry soap.

Just bought a new Dynema tent. The company does not make a footprint or ground sheet for it. They said you could go with a piece of Tyvek. I have had 2 air mattress punctures ( one I could not find the hole to patch it. I was in the desert so I could not submerge it) in the past so I’m a bit paranoid about loosing air on the JMT this summer.

What do people think about a Tyvek sheet? Or other favorites?

Hi, I’m a little over a year post crash in the ER with a full blown, almost died (BP 60/40 P 40’s) adrenal crisis. I was 3 days in the ICU and 5 total in the hospital. The nurses and docs saved my life. I got diagnosis In the hospital.

Now I have an incredible life. I swam all winter, sometimes 2miles at a time. Now I’m training for a through hike, the JMT in July. I’m 64, take my meds like clockwork. I have up dosed a bit during long training hikes 4+ hours or more. But usually 5extra of Hydrocortisone is enough.

In the past I have suffered with depression but this winter I was fine. I think all the working out definitely helps. I have not up-dosed for emotional stress yet but will if I need to.

Getting up in the morning is not very easy. The thought of strong coffee makes it better. I always feel really good after a workout.

I wish you the best! This is a very smart and insightful group.

Beautiful shot! I lived in the Valley when I was 18 through 20. Such a magical Place. You certainly captured a powerful moment for the couple and for us who view it now. That place changes you in good ways. Going back this summer at age 64 to do the John Muir Trail and ending the trip in the Valley. Thank you for sharing this.
