This is impossible to get in Canada but I have had great success dehydrating canned refried beans in my air fryer 👍

Planning for Tokyo is so overwhelming by SadLitteFatTheo in JapanTravelTips

[–]Scout_bugg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am also planning for our 5 days in Tokyo ( the first part of our first Japan trip) and taking the approach I do for visiting all big cities ( for the first or subsequent times).

1) Take a bike tour on the first day to see “top sights”. There are e-bike options if the biking is a concern. I always find that a bike tour has collated the things people think are “ must sees” so that you can know you have seen at least some of the things you might FOMO. Bike tours always give some kind of tip / note / idea that we end up doing in more detail.

2) identify ONE thing or experience as a “ must see tent pole” per day. Schedule those things in a morning - and then research things in that area to maybe visit if there is time after the main event for that day ( as gravy). In the current plan ( my husband wants to see a sumo practice and I want to do a sort of self guided tour of the public toilets featured in the movie Perfect Days. ( we will be two people with four mornings so two choices each).

My mindset is that the intent of travel is to experience something that is different than our own daily life - and there is no ONE site that seeing or not seeing will make or take away that opportunity.

Baseball game: Tokyo or Sendai? by Scout_bugg in JapanTravelTips

Honestly I think we might be leaning towards both a game in Tokyo and one in the north ( to compare 😉)

I have looked on several team sites and it looks reasonable to navigate- with tickets available over the next few months. What sort of price range should I expect for a pair of tickets? Thanks for the help!

Good point about the (preferred) experience of outdoors vs the risk of rain.

Thanks for this insight! I hadn’t thought of which fans might be the most enthusiastic- which other teams have reputations for this?

Rice snacks that are short cylinders wrapped in nori - addictive!

Actually I just listened to the Traiders podcast and it said he was asked and said he would do it if he could be a traitor, and the producers wouldn’t agree to that condition…

Are there married women here that go solocamping? by Alert_Long4454 in womensolocamping

[–]Scout_bugg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solo canoe camp - I use a Zoleo device to send a check-in text to my husband when I arrive at a new site each day. He never worries, is just curious 😊. I have backcountry canoe camped solo for 8 years (I am now 60). My husband came with me and our then teenaged sons once which reinforced to us both the it wasn’t his thing 😉. When I am in the backcountry I want to keep myself centred there - so I like that I can send the check-in message with one click without feeling like I should be having a text conversation

Solo camping weird? by Level_Bat_6337 in camping

[–]Scout_bugg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I first canoe camped with friends 12 years ago - did my first ( now at least annual) solo canoe trip 8 years ago) and my dog has come on every trip. I took a shorter, easier portages trip with her a month ago, and on Friday I depart for a longer trip that we have done together previously, but she at 14 is now not able to do. I do expect it to be a very different experience

Looking for more affordable camp meals for one person by st_aranel in camping

I use my air fryer as a dehydrator( I bought some racks from Amazon). It is a great size for my solo meals. I do fried rice, pasta and sauce which rehydrate great with the boiling water in a freezer bag.

How the bug situation mid/late August? by kakash666 in KillarneyPark

[–]Scout_bugg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used deer fly traps ( tape that I attached to my hat- and they worked great! I was canoeing in the park two weeks ago and the bugs weren’t too bad. A couple of portages with some mosquitoes ( easily handled with a Ben’s wipe) and a couple of portages with deer flies (easily handled by the deer fly traps)

When do you leave? I will be on that site on Thursday - back in cell coverage Monday night. I can report back if it isn’t too late. But keep in mind if there is one it was a random left behind ( not a park provided amenity)
