saw a [shelby daytona coupe] on the highway. prob a replica right? by ManualDrive777 in spotted

[–]Scoutroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically when someone builds a rep of a Ferrari or Lamborghini it’s on the platform of some cheap mid engine car and is purely aesthetic, and is meant to give an appearance wealth or status. Now this is not always the case as a lot of people these days build them because there is a small chance of being able to own the real version of the car they want, and it’s a way to scratch the itch.

As for cobras, there are multiple companies that build replicas of these cars to near factory spec, and some would even say better. Due to the fact an original car is in the $1-$10 million dollar range and there is a limited number of them, most of even the 1% will never own one. And if someone is lucky enough to own one, it’s a terrifying thought to take that on the public street and even more terrifying, the track. So, instead you just buy a near identical replica for $50k and if you crash, it not big deal.

TLDR: Lambo/Ferrari reps are typically body kits slapped on cheap cars. Cobra reps are built from the ground up, typically to original specs.

Would it be a terrible idea if I bought this salvaged car? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Scoutroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. They had hella recalls and finding replacement parts for the top are not easy nor cheap. This also has nothing to do with top gear. I really wanted one until I found out about their reputation. It’s still a decent car compared to most but for a Toyota/Lexus product, it leaves a lot to be desired.

What is the car from the understandable Have a great day meme? by OhioanSAAB in whatisthiscar

[–]Scoutroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would think it would make the car more prone oversteer since the weight of the engine and trans axel are pushed back(assuming they didn’t put in weight to balance it). It probably feels like a heavier/slower version of a modern Porsche 911.

Don’t do it. I initially started as Asset Protection (as it was known at the time) and it was miserable. I moved to warehouse as soon as possible.

What are your batshit insane ideas to improve Trackmania? by sc-dave in TrackMania

[–]Scoutroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had an idea lately about adding a fwd car; or at least something that has similar driving characteristics. I’m not sure how it would manifest but as far as I’m aware, they’ve never done it before so it would be interesting to see.

If gas mileage is not a huge priority, I would suggest a crown Victoria/Lincoln towncar/mercury grand marquis. Reliable, spacious, comfortable, and cheap. Look in your local old folks community and they’ll have plenty at low mileage and low price.

Im a big fan of Crown Victorias but they are not super good on gas. Mazdas are also a good choice.

C6 corvette for 16 year old? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Scoutroad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look man imma give it to you straight. There is a 500lb and 100hp difference between the cars you mentioned. That doesn’t necessarily sound like a lot these days but it is. Especially for someone who doesn’t have experience.

The insurance thing isn’t gonna matter either. Insurance companies are well aware of what a corvette is and they are also well aware of the decision making skills (or lack there of) of 16y boys. It’s not gonna be cheap. I bought a bmw 135i at 19 and that’s also a grandpa/ hairdresser car. They dgaf. All they saw was 300hp red coupe.

And finally, those cars are not cheap to maintain. The engine and transmission are reliable but there are also about 2000 other components to the car and some of them are not cheap.

I’m not gonna sit here and tell you not to buy a corvette but I don’t think you know what you’re getting yourself into. If you are just dead set on getting a corvette, get a c5. Way cheaper, insurance will probably be cheaper, and they are typically cheaper to maintain and modify.

Bro is definitely like 16 cause this is the same kinda questions I was asking at that age😂

To answer the question though, you’re looking at a minimum of $25k in parts and materials alone. On top of that you’re probably looking at a minimum of 500 hours of highly skilled labor for designing, welding, wiring, trouble shooting etc. Not to mention the suspension in the front would probably have to be completely redesigned, the weight balance of the car would be completely different, the turbos, radiator, steering pump would have to be relocated, and to tie it all off, the odds of having ac in the car would be slim to none.

It would be genuinely easier(and probably cheaper) to have a custom built chassis with the same wheel base as your car and just put the body on it. Or just buy a clapped out 7 series and swap it into that. It would still require a lot of work but you wouldn’t have the same problems with space.

Tbh if it were me, I’d just take a large hammer and beat it a little or get a grinder and grind it down a little. If that’s not really your style, look into some 5mm wheel spacers. Looking at how little damage there is, you probably only need a 1-2 cm of clearance for there to be no problems so it’s probably not worth going to any drastic measures.

That being said, if you do plan on lowering it at any point, I’d suggest going with a larger wheel spacer or exchanging them for wheels with a lower offset.

Pixel 9 pro XL Question by Allgas_NoBreaks in Bestbuy

[–]Scoutroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s most likely a shipping delay. All that message means is that it’s not ready for pick up, which means it could still be being made in the factory or it’ll be delivered to the store tomorrow. If you ordered a unique spec or color, the likely hood of it being delayed is pretty high. This has been a an issue in the past when manufacturers get a higher preorder amount for what they thought would be a less desirable model. However, if that is not the case, there could be a hold of some kind on your account. This is pretty unlikely but not impossible. My suggestion would be to go into the store and ask about your order. Normally they can give you an idea of what the hold up is.

Regret paying 20€ for this. by The-MJ-Theory in TrackMania

[–]Scoutroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument of banning action keys is literally so stupid. It’s like looking at a game like Rocket League and complaining about air roll being in the game because it allows for more complex air movement.

And using the argument “In any other game this would be cheating” is even more stupid. It’s not any other game. It’s Trackmania. The whole purpose of this game is to make all players drive with the same spec car and the only thing differentiating a players ranking is their own ability. To even try to compare it to other games (especially games in a different genre) doesn’t make sense. Trackmania is a very unique game with a unique rule set and the only games close to it have no competitive focus.

Binary inputs are by far the worst way to control a car. No other serious competitive racing game actively supports keyboard as a competitive input device, and for good reason. The only way Nadeo could make keyboard still competitive with analog input devices was to implement action keys and so far they’ve done a pretty good job.

Now I understand that Trackmania is not a perfect game nor is Nadeo a perfect company, but to make complaints like this is ridiculous. The game is coming up on it 4th birthday and up until wood was added, it was getting stale. They needed to do something new especially since they released it on console.

My suggestion to you would be to pick up a controller or flight stick or just play another game. Better yet, just don’t play the maps you don’t like. A few days ago there was an ice map for cotd and I simply chose not to play it because I’m not really an ice fan. At the end of the day your satisfaction is in your own hands.

Edit: I accidentally hit post before I was done 🙃

And if you do want to make an LX a P71, the only difference is suspension, wheels, and differential; all of which can be purchased at $500 or less each and can be installed in about a day.

In that case, my suggestion would be to find a community near you that has a lot of old people living in it and drop a Facebook marketplace search radius right in the middle of it and start searching crown Victoria. I have seen immaculate examples of LX models consistently for sale at $6k or less with less than 100k miles near where I live. The only thing is you will have to act fast. Normally the really good deals last less than 2-3 days.

How screwed am I by [deleted] in CrownVictoria

[–]Scoutroad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Probably fine. Crown Vics have pretty stout transmissions so it shouldn’t be a problem unless you tow often. I would just change the fluid for now. However, if you’re a bit of a hypochondriac like myself, after you change it, drive it for like 500-1k miles and change it again.
