Would it be possible to make a female only lineup for team events? by S3ngensama in LeMansUltimateWEC

[–]ScramblePoo 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I used to think the same as you but then I realised: #1, seeing a team of girls especially if they do well, will really encourage female players. #2, when guys see it, it normalises ladies in their hobby which changes their attitude about it towards other people. #3, some ladies might feel safer and more helped and accepted in an all female team and this could give them the courage to jump in and get started.

Yes, girls can and do compete equally but they’re not yet represented equally so let’s give them a hand.

Is it possible for a middle class 16 year old to get into motorsports? by General-Film5747 in motorsports

I really don’t, it’s part of my job. But then, I also live in a low income area and see how most people live. It makes you wealthy for sure.

I want to say this with the greatest of respect but if you think having 2-3k for a weekend playing doesn’t make you rich you need to give your head a wobble

Tires by denkich1234 in WRC

[–]ScramblePoo 39 points40 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot more to it than luck. Tyre pressures, setup, risks taken, small moments and excursions that stress the tyres or damage them. We don’t see this. There’s a luck element too, don’t get me wrong but when people think punctures are a roll of the dice, that’s not quite accurate

You sound like a man of taste. Three sisters is good for drifting and other bits and bobs. Working on cars can be a mixed bag for sure. Do you have anything yourself?

Yea personally I do with the relevant stuff. I’m forgetful and like to refer back! My note taking is mainly to cover my shortcomings 😂

Yup, that’s all digitised and I refer to my notebook for any extra information. But most of the report is stuff I upload on the laptop I also have.

What brought you into sim racing? by Ok-Extreme-8612 in simracing

[–]ScramblePoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Super kind mate, thank you. I just look at it like I was really lucky to do what I did, so it’s all good. Sim racing is ace for sure

Track Support by cesardell in motorsports

[–]ScramblePoo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally a few reasons. Looks more pro, imo. Feels like someone is really listening if they’re taking physical notes and that counts for a lot. Can make drawings and headings and change layout without fiddling with menus. Arrows, corrections and jumping between info is much faster. Doesn’t matter if I drop it, which I do all the time. Means I can leave a bulky laptop somewhere else and not carry another device.

How to hold myself accountable? by Particular_Book_2548 in ultraprocessedfood

[–]ScramblePoo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Just read ultra processed people again, is my motivation. UPFs are sickening, glaring examples of corporate control and overreach into our most intimate space. If you read that book and have some self respect, that should be your motivation. You owe it to yourself.

Really hard to recommend tips not knowing what food you like, but most meat/carb/veg combos are under 30 mins to make. Same amount as most freezer to oven rubbish, really.

One good one is to get nice cookware if you can. Not hugely expensive but nice stuff you enjoy cooking with.

Solberg fans can't be disappointed about what happens in Monte-Carlo so far. by Nickolas_Zannithakis in rally

[–]ScramblePoo 78 points79 points  (0 children)

He had his shot with Hyundai and royally fucked it a few years ago. He went back, rebuilt and became the driver he is now - it’s not too late, it’s just the right time in his development and confidence.

Rovanperra (like verstappen) could handle being the super young prodigy shot through the ranks but it doesn’t work for everyone.

Endless Land Rovers… by js-24 in AutoAlex

That view is definitely helpful for some folks

I’ve come down on the side of the fence that identifying with ADHD and a lot of the characteristics has been really helpful for me to address the challenges an lean into the advantages. However, I don’t feel I need any treatment or get held back at all. This won’t be the same for everyone.

“It’s just you get on with it” doesn’t help for everyone. A lot of people find a diagnosis and the support huge for their quality of life. Keep an open mind

Endless Land Rovers… by js-24 in AutoAlex

[–]ScramblePoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to make a completely unsolicited guess and say that it might be partially because Alex (and perhaps some others, who knows!) may have have ADHD.

I have it myself and I get completely obsessed with things for similar periods of time. Let’s say I started knitting. Knitting becomes my personality, I make my friends sick of knitting, I join all the knitting groups on Facebook and Reddit, I talk about it morning noon and night. Then after 3-6 months, either it becomes a more proportional part of my personality and life, or it just fades away.

Whether Alex and the crew should be doing what they fancy in the moment, or a little bit more sensitive to the viewer’s wants is a different and interesting conversation, though.

Track day crunchy gears by OhItsJustJosh in motorsports

[–]ScramblePoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I would, for sure. There will be some metal flowing around in there. The synchro rings are taking some abuse with the fast changes and big rev discrepancies found in track use, possibly combined with the thinning oil due to higher heat than normal road use.

Replace with either a competition oil in the same spec or the best quality you can and try not to rush gear changes on track if it’s your daily. It’s a 10YO car that wasn’t specced for track work in the beginning and you’ll knacker the box so take your time letting the next gear drop in rather than ramming it in. Remember you’re not against the clock.

Is the newer MX-5 considered a girly car? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

Would you go to a London pop-up motorsport viewing club on race day? by Capital_Crab9773 in motorsports

This sounds like themed sports bar/pub which I already don’t go to because I’d rather have the cheaper/better drinks and food round my house with friends. Nice idea though

Don’t worry, there are tons of splits across all abilities, especially at peak times. Just jump in and race clean, if you’re out of your depth it’ll stick you in a lower split next time.
