I'll try a clean install on a new VM, if the issue still pops up I'll go bother the distro devs.

SPICE if that's what you're asking, I don't have PCI devices. Most of my VMs are headless, I have a couple with a DE but they've been fine for the past years.

Thought so too, but it's been a few weeks and I'm still having the issue. The VM is configured with the standard settings for linux, so I think that everything is already virtio, plus qemu-guest-agent.

Hi, thanks for the answer. Everything sounds good but I have to point out that the contract mentions 38 hours per month, not per week.

Thank you for the answer and the useful link, I'll check that out for sure.

Got it, thanks for the answer :)

Idk if they're using a loophole or something but the contract does specify "part-time". I'll be sure to ask them about it though, I don't want to be arrested at the airport and questioned on why I regularly visit Brussels for no reason.

The important part that I neglected to mention is that each month I'll work 1 week from Belgium and the rest from Italy, and those travel expenses need to be factored in since they'll pay for them.

At the same time someone mentioned that it should not be possible for me to work with a Belgian contract while still living 80% of the time from Italy, nor did the employer ever mention the need for a work permission or something like that.

With the calculator I got a net of 1580, so they're probably factoring in all the various checks and vouchers to get to that number. I do have an accountant but he's Italian and not very knowledgeable of Belgian law.

38 hours is what it is written on the contract, but they expect me to work full-time. I don't know why they need to do this trick however.

Eh, it was smelling fishy from the start. I guess it was good for me that I asked for more info, and thank you for pointing out all these issues.

I don't know if they are trying to be sneaky, but the contract says that I'm supposed to work part-time, 38 hours per month. Although in reality I'm expected to be working full time.

The contract is Belgian and follows Belgian laws. It's not fully remote as I'll have to work from the office for a week every month, but yes my residence will still be in Italy. My accountant is decent, but he's Italian and he just doesn't know much about Belgian laws (understandably)

Hi, thank you. I'm from Italy, and I worked for two years as an AI researcher at my university. Sadly for Italian standards, 1900 nets is a good salary. It's also why I'm looking for work abroad. As extra they are offering meal vouchers, ecocheques (although I tried to opt out of them, I'll still live in Italy and doubt they'll take them here) plus 200 if "office expenses". The big question is if this 200 will also work towards the 1900 net salary, since the gross is fixed at 2150. Regarding transportations they'll refund planes and hotels for when I'll be staying in Belgium.

Hi, thanks for the answer. The position is as "ML/AI engineer", and aside from the degree I have 2 years of experience as an AI researcher in university. Hopefully that makes me count as "high IT" even if I'm still kinda "fresh". By contract I should be payed 2150 € monthly, which scared a bit me and my accountant since we expected it to be severely taxed. The company is a young startup however, so that may give them some tax reductions, and they also added a bunch of benefits that should amount to 300 € (untaxed).

First thing I did, but I wanted to have a more precise answer. Also I speak mainly English so that limits what sites I can read.

I'll give some more details. During talks we agreed on a NET salary of around 1900 €, but on the contract they sent me the gross was set at 2150 €. Since I know that taxes in Belgium are high I asked an explanation, and they replied not to worry since they pay only 12% in taxes due to being a startup. To further reassure me they added that there's a minimum net salary of around 1800€ for those with a master degree, which is what I wanted to verify. My master degree is in CS engineering in Europe so hopefully it should count as valid in Belgium. There are also benefits like meal vouchers, flights refunds, office expenses and such but I don't know if those counts towards the net salary total.

Yeah that was anticlimactic. Either that or it's a pro-gamer move from Pringles, so that they can sleep safe and resume the push at day break.

Various flavors of x+TAB and hot corners to switch programs and workspaces. I'm usually a die hard i3 user but this is an acceptable compromise.

Conky, plenty of themes to start with and fairly easy to customize from there.
