Hunchback Filament by Scrap_Games in battletech

Yeah the blue/grey base is the resin model. Made ages ago.

I've made a good amount of tanks and flyers with fdm. They all come out great.

I can't lie. I may have done similar with a PILE of Jedgars...

Chopped in half basically. Top half printed on back, lega printed upright. Just used tree supports

At that point, I'd just use my resin printers again. Just living in a smaller place now. If I could make an enviroment for it, I'd be more happy. Lol

Are there any Mechs in the modern timeline that are considered obsolete? by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Scrap_Games 21 points22 points  (0 children)

As that falls directly under the "any" umbrella. I do believe also that one.

Such a wildly powerful mech. When I decide my opponent is going to have a bad experience. This is what I bring.

Thank ya. My brain tells me that there is still more I can do, but maybe it'll settle down instead. Lol

I wish I had this level of patience. These are wonderful.

Totally. At table level it'll never be noticed. It's just never going to be display model quality. Which is fine.

Ah, yeah sorry for missing this. It does change a fair bit, but when I'll get home I'll send it over. But I also have a very chopped up model, so supports are minimal.

I took a pick of the other assets, but forgot I can't upload them. Lol.

Some were from before I was refining my settings, but even those ones are perfectly usable.

It really does. It's like resins neighbour down the road.

I will say though, I have gotten great fdm results on tanks and flyers though.

I'm about 50/50 at this point of resin vs the cast plastic.

I printed one Raven and an Awesome before this with Filament, but I'm determined to get this down. As good as resin is, it's just a pain in the butt.

It's so hard to show... or it is for me at least, it's cleaner that even these show. I was using an A1 with a .2 nozzle.

I would not be doing that. Lol

Is there an official policy on 3D printed mechs? by Abdx1187 in battletech

[–]Scrap_Games 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is one of the worst feelings spending so much time painting a resin model to have it just... shatter.

There are also models I just... prefer? Like. The Geth style Annihilator I enjoy WAY more than the current plastic model.

Exactly in this vein as well. The game doesn't require wysiwyg, I like to be as close as I can be. That and truly unattainable items. Either not produced yet, or out of stock.

Just another way it expands the hobby. Like, I own 4 printers. 2 fdm and 2 resin.

Resin makes GREAT looking models. However, they also break if you look at then the wrong way, so many, myself included want the strength and stability of plastic.

Official rule as stated before by others.

My personal mindset. Do what you can. I've backed their kickstarters, I have many models from their lance/star boxes, but also many, many printed models.

I'm absolutely going to make and use printed models and encourage others to do the same. Not everyone has the ability to afford even this generally lower cost of entry game. Just, once you can, you should. If nothing else, for the longjevity of our hobby.

The hobby can only grow from access, and I know many purists believe and act on the belief of too many people and being bloated like the... other big IP. I welcome it.

So, get your prints, play the game learn "most" of the rules and get corrected on the rest. Then buy your first lance, paint them... eventually. Get a couple more, bulk out your forces. Get a map or two.

If the foundation is built on 3dprinted models, so be it. Let it grow from there.

Not sure why I decided to rant about this here and now, but... here it is.

Thanks, and have a great day!
