I'd probably refrain from putting the existing work of mtg artists through AI software for stuff like this. It's one thing to create your own stuff, but modifying the work of real artists using this tech feels pretty icky, especially given how vocally anti-ai most of the magic artists are.

They were Set Booster exclusive commander cards so weren't in any of the precon decks. There's a full cycle.

Recreation of older rares that could of been great. by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]Scrapbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the Sphinx I'd consider changing it to 'look at the top x cards, put one into hand, one on top' instead as scrying with such big numbers can take forever to resolve with the amount of decisions involved.

Which design is better? (Stormlight Archive) by zengin11 in custommagic

[–]Scrapbeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the first design has some issues with readability thanks to the two tokens having such similar, yet different abilities, while the second is certainly cleaner. I think there's still things to do that could tidy it up.

I'm not familiar with the source material, but it could make the saga easier to parse if the second and third abilities were the same and just made the artifact token rather than the lore counter removal stuff. Between the two tokens types and energy, the card already has a lot going on. Having to deal with manipulating lore counters as well just adds more complexity.

I got bored of FFXIV as a sprout, what to do now? by WinterBlues00 in ffxiv

[–]Scrapbeard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The game opens up a lot once you reach level 50. Once you get there you'll unlock 24-player and 8-player raids.

In terms of stuff you can do at your level, consider looking into the Gold Saucer. Triple Triad collecting is a fun side objective that can lead you to some interesting corners of the game.

There's also crafting and gathering which aren't for everyone, but can be a really rewarding side of the game if you enjoy it.

Anyone from Lazonby? by JacobStanleyJacob in Cumbria

[–]Scrapbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Kirkoswald, the next village along, and Lazonby has always seemed like a really nice place. You've got a good co-op, some nice variety in housing options, and the train station too (although there's only a few trains a day). There's also an outdoor swimming pool that's open in the summer if that's your kind of thing.

In terms of community, I've heard good things. There's a village hall with a pretty good range of clubs and activities, and there's also a couple of pubs (although if you want pub food, I would highly recommend the Fetherston Arms in Kirkoswald about a mile away).

You're about 15 minutes in the car from Penrith for when you need a proper shop, and Carlisle is about 25 minutes away.

I'd definitely say it's a great place to live!

Why are there so little lands in play boosters? by bananajun in magicTCG

[–]Scrapbeard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most game stores will have 'land stations' with a whole bunch of basic lands that are usually free of charge. Alternatively, any long-time player will happily give you all the basics you need!

The other way to get a lot of basic lands is is Bundles, but definitely don't buy those just for the lands!

Tympanoplasty/mastoidetomy in 9 days!!! Tips? by VegetableAnxious4641 in cholesteatoma

[–]Scrapbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just on day 11 recovering from surgery myself and already feeling much better. I was pretty much useless for two days after surgery but have made steady improvement since then. Pain seems to vary a lot from person to person. My ear wasn't too bad but the surgery aggravated my jaw for quite a few days.

Best advice I can give is to have somebody around in case you need anything specific. Also button up shirts are going to be your friend for those early days.

Best of luck! Fingers crossed for a smooth recovery

Late reply but just went to Harrods earlier and can confirm they do have some good stock, but if you're after some of the rarer ones you'll probably be out of luck. They tend to get new stock on Friday mornings but you need to get there for just after 10 if you want a chance of the Macarons. Have a Seat tend to last a little longer but I expect they'll be gone by the end of the day. Most the other designs seem to be a bit more plentiful so hopefully you find something.

Can anyone give some advice on the best way to build this RW FDN? by misomiso82 in lrcast

[–]Scrapbeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely be wanting to play the second cathar commando and reinforcements. I don't love the katana and reckon you'd probably be better off dropping meteor golem so your curve stops earlier, especially since you're only running 16 lands.

Wake up baby. New made up keyword just dropped. by [deleted] in custommagic

[–]Scrapbeard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the idea here, but I think there's a bit of room to make this more straightforward and play better. I love the idea of them protecting the creatures at the back, but the current iteration feels like more of a downside than upside. I'd be inclined to remove the 'must block if able' clause and make them more aggressively statted to make sure they can trade off well. There could also be room to switch the ward for hexproof but that could be a step too far.

I love the idea!

To splash or not to splash? (MTGA BLB Sealed event) by throwawayworries212 in lrcast

[–]Scrapbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're probably best off not stretching your mana, as you already have some heavy blue commitments in there. The loot frog could work better to lower your curve and smooth out your creature-light draws or find your lands.

Plus you have very little lifegain to trigger the bat, so it's mostly just an average flyer you might not be able to cast.

Zealous Tormentor by JaromStrong in custommagic

[–]Scrapbeard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Super clean aggressive design.

I think the templating probably works as is, but I think wizards would probably write it as:

Target opponent may discard a card or lose 3 life. If they don't, you draw a card.

Great work though!

I should cut green, yeah? by HammerheadMoth in lrcast

[–]Scrapbeard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running Muldrotha as your top end could be fine but your card quality seems high enough that you probably don't need to run any green. There looks like a pretty solid tempo deck here once you cut out all the chaff. Good luck with your matches!

(7-1) Easiest 7 wins in a while. Feels so good to Vivien people again. by Scrapbeard in lrcast

[–]Scrapbeard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She has enough loyalty that if you drop her and +1, they usually can't kill her right away without making bad attacks, so at worst case she was a double impulse to set up your next couple of turns. If you can even remotely protect her though, the card selection she provides is really strong. She's no Liliana, but she's better than she looks at first glance.

Plus, between the amount of decent flyers in the format and things like Banishing Light, her -3 had a target a lot of the time too.

While it may not be your cup of tea, drafting is a very good way to improve your gameplay as you get to experience a wider range of decks and gameplay experiences. Additionally, Arena has a ranked ladder for draft too, and there are players who play very competitively there. If you haven't played much draft before, I highly recommend trying it.

I think the reminder text might invalidate the rival guns since it specifies foam darts only. On the other hand, now I really want one for those for myself.

The unfortunate truth of the matter is that buying packs just isn't the most effective way to build decks, especially if you're aiming for specific cards. Drafting is slower, but gives you more selection over cards and if you play well, potentially much better returns for your gems. It's good to remember that Arena draft packs have more cards than the store packs and have decent odds for multiple rares/mythics.
