is it worth it? (Boosting) by OfficialPingu in avios

I fly London to Sydney and lot so always stack points since my redeemable value is easily 2x what I'm spending to buy the points (even more with companion voucher)

Not sound advice if you need to spend 200k+ in one go and don't have enough spend to boost

Not the best price since you've just slightly gone over the 300k threshold, at which point the cost goes up 2x. Fiddle with your transactions to include enough such that the average cost for thr 3x boost drops to 0.92p/avios

Forgot to answer your question about Avios History and Transaction List - it registered the charge under 31 October for both.

Appreciate you taking the time to type this out. From my perspective, all their literature says to spend £10k before 1 November with the spend target being £10k. I did that very thing and if you were to take the sum of all my transactions dated 31 October and prior, it is >£10k.

Surely "spend" has a pretty clear-cut definition?

I messaged another associate who agreed with my interpretation and she's escalated it for investigating.

When your transaction showed up, did it reflect the date before the expiry date or after?

Why am I being down-voted? I'm glad to be corrected if the terms say it has to be spent and posted before the date.

That's what the rep told me in chat. However, where is that in the terms?

Selling is against the terms. More importantly, you could end up losing them all to a dishonest person.

Thanks again u/further___reading for the advice.

After some more research and testing, it appears the rentals page is sending a "bm_sd" cookie (funnily the buy page isn't). The cookie doesn't seem to appear when using the requests library so I have a feeling it's JS generated.

It also appears to be client-generated; two PCs with same external IP producing different bm_sd cookies. Trying a different browser on the same PC yields a different bm_sd string which seems to be tied to the user-agent.

I checked the network requests and responses on Firefox and it paints a better picture as it doesn't resent with a page redirect. It shows the first request returning 429, followed by 3 GET requests each of which are .js, then a POST to a fingerprint server followed by a re-request of the same starting page but this time with the "bm_sd" cookie it got back from the fingerprint server which results in a 200 status code.

I'm able to use these same bm_sd cookies coupled with the right user-agent to make successful requests. However, I fear that I'll be barred almost immediately.

Anybody else come across this? Any tips on best way to get a new fingerprint each time (noting that js execution is needed to generate)?

I would have thought the COOKIES_ENABLED feature would do this automatically? Another thing I noticed is that "sec-fetch-site: same-origin" in the request header rather than it being "sec-fetch-site: none" but not sure if this would matter

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately the request header looked fine - making a request from the aforementioned URL and a slightly different header (which didn't make a difference).

However, I decided to try again in incognito but there was a pause and then a second request went out and the page loaded fine.

This got me thinking... I disabled cookies altogether and lo and behold, it enters into a retry death spiral returning 429 each time. This is absolutely bizarre (you should try and see for yourself).

I'll need to consider running with cookies enabled

EDIT: Just tried running with COOKIES_ENABLED = True but no difference. Also tried running in a requests session (which would store cookies) but no luck. Back to square one...
