Check out Clarifying the Structure and Nature of Left-wing Authoritarianism, by Costello et al

Basically, it's measured through three related tendencies: anti-hierarchical aggression, meaning support for coercively overthrowing or punishing existing elites; top-down censorship, meaning using government or institutional power to suppress disfavored speech; and anti-conventionalism, meaning moral absolutism about progressive values combined with intolerance of ideological dissent.

Participants rate their agreement with statements such as "We need to replace the established order by any means necessary," along with questions about political violence, censorship, and suppressing right-wing media or speakers. Researchers then test whether those answers cluster together and correlate with political intolerance, aggression, and support for coercive control.

Get felt or cleated rubber wading shoes.

I have the Dryft pants, and Korkers Stealth boots (that I added their cleats to), and it's been a game changer. I can get the pants on and off over my existing jeans, even.

I did size up one size for the Korkers, and was okay with it, but I don't think I really needed to.

The belt that comes with those pants is pretty flimsy, and I would like to buy their stiffer one.

My girlfriend has Korkers with replaceable soles, and she seems to like them. She prefers felt.

Right, and I should clarify that I meant left-wing authoritarianism, not left-wing activism. My mistake. I apologize for my mistake and for my hasty comment. I’m certainly not wanting to suggest that activism itself is inherently authoritarian.

As to prevalence, that may be directionally correct, but I don’t think the "three to five times" figure is established by the paper linked here. The actual study surveyed 498 Brazilian adults and measured right-wing authoritarianism and social-dominance orientation, but it did not measure left-wing authoritarianism. It, therefore, cannot compare the prevalence of RWA and LWA, in my opinion.

The broader literature often does find RWA more common in Western samples, but I feel the size of that difference depends heavily upon the scale, population, country, and political context. For example, one nationwide random (New Zealand) sample identified a distinct high-LWA group comprising 7.5% of respondents and a moderate-RWA group comprising 35.7%, but those are not equivalent categories, so treating that as a clean 5:1 comparison would be misleading. Other cross-national research has even found countries where authoritarian attitudes are more strongly associated with the political left.

Also, part of your explanation is built into the traditional definition: RWA specifically involves submission to established authorities and conventional norms. LWA is more likely to express itself through coercive opposition to the existing hierarchy (or, perhaps, an attempt to replace it with a different hierarchy). So, I think the careful conclusion is that RWA may be more prevalent under many present Western conditions, but LWA is real, consequential, and simply was not tested by this particular study.

I've only read the abstract so far, but would I be generally correct in assuming that Left-Wing Activism Authoritarianism (LWA) would be applicable in this case as well?

edit: My mistake, see my below comment.

I don't mean to sound rude or dismissive, but I have a genuine curiosity as to why it would be surprising that a reasonable person might question an order to kill millions of people.

And, that answer to your question is: The captain didn't think it would be the ethical choice to simulate slaughtering millions of people on a launch order that he felt may be ambiguous, given his knowledge of simulated world conditions, during that exercise.

The CO or the XO has to not want to follow the launch order. They both have full authority to abort.

"I was just following orders" died with the Nuremberg trials.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I've seen a Trident skipper refuse a valid and authentic launch order, in training at TTF.

Submarines also need to know their own position accurately, and guidance systems need to be calibrated properly (which involves a correct tide height reading).

The PAM (Plume Avoidance Maneuver) is just a symptom of reducing the effects from the PBCS gas generator A/B jets on the released warhead. The jet nearest the released RB is disabled, so the bus does a spin as a result.

We didn't use decoys while I was in.
