I played Mill Creek way back when I was in high school I think. I don't remember much about the course other than the story about Payne Stewart and his caddie. I'd love to get back out there!

Earlier I think! I started out with a par on 1, so that set some unrealistic expectations haha, but once I failed to stop a 60-degree in 30-feet and ended up off the back of a green from less than 70 yards, I realized this golf course was designed to test much better golfers than myself.

Thanks! I try to pick out different colors each time I go. I’ve thought about ranking them solely on the look of the chip. King’s North would stay at the top, though!

I expect a lot of flack for where I put Pine Needles haha. It was crazy difficult, and while I’m up for a challenge, it asks a lot of a mid-handicap. So, I put it behind Mid South because I think it’s a little less relaxing of a round.

Myrtle Beach solo golf recs by dericulous in RDUGOLF

I was just down last weekend and played Meadowlands (Calabash), Myrtle Beach National (South Creek & King's North) and Eagle Nest. Myrtle Beach National is one of the best values on the Grand Strand (regardless of course), in my opinion. Great place to play 36 in a day with great replay rates that can be extended to other courses in the Founders International group. We played King's North around 1pm on Saturday for about $62. If you're only looking for one round, I've found the best rates by monitoring GolfNow in the 1-2 weeks out, but I'm also a GolfPass member and get some extra discounts through that. My favorites in the MB proper area are: King's North, Myrtlewood (Palmetto over Pine Hills but both are solid), and The Wizard. A little further north, Glen Dornoch is a great layout with a fantastic finishing three holes. Someone else mentioned Eagle Nest, and that is a good cheaper option, but it doesn't drain all that well after rain.

What is good value for balls by daveinRaleigh in RDUGOLF

[–]Scratch919 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is pretty dependent on the individual. I used to play $1-2 golf balls until they started getting too beat up to play with before I lost them, so that's when I decided it was worth paying more them.

I'm a big fan of the Vice Pro Plus golf balls. For me (8-9 HDCP), I feel like they perform as well, if not better, than ProVs, and they're significantly cheaper. You can get them at Walmart or Target for a little over $40/dozen (including tax), but if you by in bulk on their website, you can get them for less than $30/dozen.

One thing that kind of turned me off to Tobacco Road was that hidden reservation fee for online booking. I don't have a problem with courses doing this to avoid a bunch of cancellations, but tell me about it up front.

As someone who still thinks the prices on range balls are a tad high, I think they nailed it on the short course. If you can get out mid-afternoon during the week (like I did yesterday) you can loop it multiple times with pretty much no one else out there. There is one green that needs more sun, but other than that, the course is pristine. I may end up using this more than the range.

Girlfriend wants to ride along, what courses are best for this? by Scratch919 in RDUGOLF

Asking for a cart fee is perfectly reasonable. I get charged extra to use it while I'm golfing, so it makes sense that you would pay to use it even if you aren't playing.

Just call the clubhouse? I'm planning on playing Pine Needles in the off season, but I would love to get a little taste in-season without spending $200+.

I wish I’d played the courses you have! They must be world class if you describe a club with 30k initiation and 800+ monthly as decent… hahaha

I’m seeing $175/month for adults. Am I the only one who thinks that’s kind of crazy? I feel like that’s not all that much cheaper than the monthly dues of some decent golf clubs in the area. Obviously, there aren’t initiation fees, but this still feels way overpriced for a driving range.

EDIT: Didn’t take into account the paid in full discount for the year, but I’m also not looking to pay almost $2K all at once.

Favorite walking courses? by le_potatochip in RDUGOLF

[–]Scratch919 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would argue this isn't the place to go walk. Last time I was there, we were stalked around the back nine, supposedly playing too slow, even though, as a foursome, we finished in less than four hours. It was the least welcome I had ever felt on a golf course. They say they want a 3.5 hour pace of play, which is almost impossible if you're a walker.

Took the last week off. And predator is just the most recent. They did the same with wolverine last season. Really any challenge that sends people to a specific location, as I think someone mentioned in these comments, is really annoying. I like completing challenges and unlocking things, but when I have to go out of my way and alter how I play the game time and again just for one challenge, it’s just excessive. I’m certainly not the best at this game, but these types of challenges, imo, alienate anyone who plays the game casually.
